What do you ride?

That would be the 450exc Phil.
Time for me to step up & start riding like a man.

I just got a new toy today.
'09 model with 3500 on the clock.

Nice very nice Mr Pounce ......

You will need variable cam adjusters to do it really accurately the standard ones only move on a woodruff key and can only be moved on tooth at a time .

Hi monsterman ,yeh ive already got the adjustable cam pulleys on there ready to go .The bike runs very strong for an old 900 so i havent done it yet but will once the wet gets here.regards Greg

Well after Big Fella Ian yanked my pride and joy KTM 525 to go fry wheel bearings in Lao I needed a replacement.

Picked up this 2013 KTM 500 EXC with 20 miles on it.

With a 39+ inch tall seat height I should be falling down even more than before.

IMG_0282-L.jpg

Since its a few pounds lighter than the 525 it should be a bit easier on my bones when it lands on top of me.

Next step setting it up and shipping it Thailand to get it dirty and wear out wheel bearings.

Very nice Justin, there's not many people with the 500's over here, they're all going for the 350 now.
See the cutdown seat on mine, I just had to replace that with a Tall Soft seat from Slavens Racing. Best seat I have ever sat on - so soft.

In terms of a pure dirt bike I would get the 350 as well. Just about perfect outta the box. However the 350 does not cruise on tarmac at as high of a speed as the 500. Dazza was nice enough to let me have a go on his 350 KTM and the internal six speed gear cog cruises about 30 KPH lower than the 500 six gear. Not what I need for a bike that some of my trips will be a few weeks. The 500 also has a full 1.5 quart oil capacity which is a bit more than the 350 allowing me longer oil change intervals. So for my long range DS rides the 500 choice won out. If it was 2 day rides the 350 would be my choice but not first choice for cruising to Cambodia and Laos. Luckily i still have the KTM 250 XCFW for my day ride bike.

Tall seat:lol:. Yea mate in my dreams. I have to take the stock seat and cut what little foam there is out just to get the tip of my tootsie on the ground.

I swapped the KLX for this yesterday. Not the best cosmetically but nothing new plastics and graphics can not cure. It was advertised as a UK 09 plate but I am pretty sure its a 08 model due to the black forks I think 09 reverted back to silver. Had a short ride yesterday and the additional power coupled with the weight reduction was enough to put a big smile on my face, my dirt bike mojo is back.........

Kevin from Singapore, one of his friends with a new KTM 350 just had to do a top end engine rebuild at 80 hours, it was starting to use oil.

I did the first big ride consisting of 150klm's of trails & single track yesterday. Why didn't someone tell me years ago to buy one of these.
Around 6 hours of hard riding & I was no where near as tired & worn out as I normally am from doing that amount on the DRZ.
Plus getting the front wheel up whenever you want is such a good feeling.

Should be a fun mount for you. Enjoy the new toy.

Kevin from Singapore, one of his friends with a new KTM 350 just had to do a top end engine rebuild at 80 hours, it was starting to use oil.

That's surprising, I just put back the stock cylinder and piston on my WR and after about 200 hours on the 290 piston it is still looking good for another 50 hours at least.

Racing bike vs. touring bike! 12,000rpms on that little skirted piston, best not to risk it.Max, I opened this thread expecting to see a new, gleaming white KTM300...............?

An excellent choice pounce, I think my next off-road bike will be one of the new fuel injected (no altitude problems) KTM 450 XC-F's. Some say it'll pull your arms off and wear you out with all the power, i'm not convinced, fantastic machine

It's gonna be a handful Phil. Believe me. FI on these bikes is instantaneous, the slightest twitch of throttle and it's moving quickly.

The 450 would be too much for me, that's why I opted for the 350.

Th power delivery on my old carb fed WR450 could catch you out, FI magnifies that.

You can get FI tuners to soften the initial hit, that would make it a bit softer and less racy.

I wonder if a material difference could be made in relation to taming the sensitive power delivery by using a longer throw handlebar throttle cam?

Never sent from an I-Phone

Can echo this statement having ridden this bike , twas more tiring than a tiring thing ! Would imagine it would be ok fast long distance stuff but is there enough of that to make it worth wile ?

It would help, I have one on the CRF.
