TBR China ADV Riding

Baoting used to be the island's second largest city (after the capital, Haikou), but is now being surpassed by nearby Sanya. The city is the home town of the Soong sisters, two of whom married the Chinese leaders Sun Yat Sen and Chiang Kai Shek.
Bǎotíng Li and Miao Autonomous County (Paoting) is an autonomous county in Hainan, People's Republic of China and the official website in Chinese: http://www.baoting.hainan.gov.cn

Baoting "Frog Town" as they really have sort of an obesession with frogs, don't know if they but they are present almost everywhere in on form or the other.

Qixianling Mountain (Seven Fairy Mountain), located in Baoting Li and Miao Ethnic Group Autonomous County, is 76 k's away from the international tourism city Sanya in the South and 39 k's from the famous mountain city Wuzhishan in the North.

Large yellow inflatable rubber ducks are in fashion everywhere, this one spotted on the bottom of Qixianling Mountain.....

Flat rear tyre just in front of the Dadonghai bike repair shop in Sanya downtown area.
As the Jialing JH600 has tubed tyres, the whole rear wheel has to dismantled to fix or install a new inner tube.
Love tubeless tyres as easy plug and ride again with reliable tire pluggers (rope or mushroom plugs) and an electric air compressor.

Well, surprise ~ surprise, my mates well known trusty and reliable Chang-Jiang sidecar sits once again in a bike repair shop... the joy's of owning a piece of vintage China motorcycle history.

Business meetings up in capital city Haikou arranged and making my way up North via the inner island roads, basically Sanya >> Lingshui / Wanning >> Haikou with a snack break stop.

Bush gas station operated out of a roadside shop by a betel nut chewing couple either drunk or high as kites, barely able to speak... just some mumbling and filling up with crappy gas, got me going again without probs till the next real gas station.

Coffee shops popping up in the countryside along major roads and the G98 Hainan Ring Expressway, good for some breaks in an air-conditioned environment.

Great pictures there, interesting and varied scenery, the bike is interesting also "Jialing JH600" very BMW looking how is it priced in China and how does it run ?

Jialing bike pricing in China has been discussed in post #14 in this thread already.

Both my JL's (solo / sidecar) run great as daily runners and happy with them bikes, no complaints.
The solo feels a bit like a de-tuned version of the Honda XR600R I owned a long time ago.

Jialing JH600 design is very similar to the Cagiva Canyon, not BMW'ish at all in my opinion....

The Temple of Five Lords (Wugong Ci) in Haikou: Temple of Five Lords - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Five Officials' Temple or Wugong Ci in Chinese, are approximately 5 kilometers (about 3.1 miles) from the centre of Haikou City, and were originally constructed during the reign of Emperor Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It was renovated on several occasions during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Now, it is a place known for its sense of peace, tranquility and beauty.

Skipped the blind date party and made my way towards Chengmai area and onwards to Lingao Cape via the coastal roads...

Lingao is situated in the north-west of Hainan Island. It borders Chengmai County to the east and Danzhou to the south with the Qiongzhou Strait to the North.
Stopover at the famous Lingao monument out at the Lingao Cape, a large stone monument for the Hainan Island Campaign.
Landing Operation on Hainan Island, was a series of battles fought between the Kuomintang (Nationalists) (National Revolutionary Army, NRA) and the People's Liberation Army (PLA) during the Chinese Civil War in the post-World War II period, and resulted in a PLA victory.
More details and info here: Landing Operation on Hainan Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lighthouse in the back at Lingao (Lamko Point)1893. Active; focal plane 21 m (69 ft); three white flashes followed by one longer white flash every 27 s. 21 m (69 ft) hexagonal pyramidal skeletal tower with lantern, gallery, and central cylinder.
Lighthouse painted with red and white horizontal bands.

Every Chinese I told before about my plans says, nobody goes to Lingao, not even Chinese, what for do you want to go there? Well liked the area as no real estate or industry developments and beautiful weather and scenery......
Seems they have never seen a foreigner on a motorcycle in the greater Lingao area.

Departed Lingao Cape via a single track concrete road along the coast towards Yangpu.
Small fishing villages scattered all along the coast line.

Cruising along the concrete road, no traffic at all afternoon and pine tree forests beside the road with a few boat builders along the tree line by the beach.

Enjoyed cruising along the coastal concrete road from the Lingao monument to the Yangpu area.
The Yangpu Ancient Salt Field is an archeological heritage site in Yantian village, on the Yangpu Peninsula in Hainan, China.
Salt Field area comprises more than 1,000 stones, cut flat on top, which are used to evaporate seawater to produce salt.
The stones have a thin rim around the edge to contain the water. During high tide, the surface of the stones becomes filled with seawater.
During low tide, this evaporates, leaving the salt, which is then collected.
The area was established around 800 AD when a group of salt workers from Putian city in Fujian province moved to Yangpu.
Today, only a small group of villagers continue to make salt using this method and it is not their main source of income.

A couple of weeks biking and business on Hainan Island coming to an end once again, time flies when you have good time....
The Jialing JH600 has been washed, cleaned and stored dry and safe again, well ~ a Tropical Storm brought some wind and heavy rain to the greater Yalong Bay area during my last day but everything went smooth.

Shall let the grass sleep till the next Hainan bike ride later in the year.... to be continued....

Autumn run to my favourite nearby biking playground, MOGANSHAN
Mount Mogan is a mountain located in Deqing County, Zhejiang Province, China, 60 kilometers from the provincial capital Hangzhou and 200 km from Shanghai.
It is part of the Moganshan National Park and at its base is the small town of Moganshan

Running into two three-wheeled Scooter riders in the Moganshan Mountains...

Autumn bike ride from Shanghai over to Hangzhou (Zhejiang Province) along the Grand Canal waterway system, the Dalian Lake wetlands promoting environmental improvements and education.
Route = National Road #320 Shanghai - Xitang - Jiaxing - Hangzhou.

Recycling along National Road #320 near Xitang Watertown (Zhejiang), recycling of all sorts (paper, glass, metal, etc.) is quite a big business in China...

Hold your breath while passing the fibreglass plant beside the National road #320, a city itself, massive and huge processing factory....

Hangzhou (Hangchow) lies in the north of Zhejiang province, in the Qiantangjiang delta, about 40km/25mi west of Hangzhou Bay, at 120°12'E and 30°15'N.
The rather tranqil town of Hangzhou, popularly known as ''Silk City'', is one of China's most beautiful towns; in the words of the well-known Chinese proverb ''In Heaven is Paradise, here on earth are Suzhou and Hangzhou''.
The famous ''Dragon Well'' tea (Longjing cha) which is hand-picked twice a year is grown in this region. More Hangzhou info here: Hangzhou - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hefang Old Street is a historical cultural street area located at the foot of the scenic Wushan Hill of southern Hangzhou and quite close to the famous West Lake.
As usual, snack food widely available.

Leaving Hangzhou, taking China #104 National Road to meet up with mates at the Moganshan Lodge: Moganshan Lodge for a group ride back to Shanghai.
This time of the year (autumn), the twisty mountain roads become a bit more dangerous and challenging due to the bamboo cutting and processing.
Stacks of bamboo along the road side and the small and large trucks with bamboo poles sticking out the back.

Ballroom dancing in the streets - saw that the first time when I visited Kunming and later also in Sjanghai and Beijing. Haven't see this in other countries but it seems to be quite common in China. Beautiful pictures of the sunset lake.

December 2013, once again to Hainan Island in Southern China for the festive year end season for some fun in the sun and disturbing the sleeping grass….

Preventive Jialing JH600 maintenance like oil change and a new green "high performance" chain, all work done at the Dadonghai bike shack….

Must be a training or stunt bike of some sort parked outside the Dadonghai bike shack…..

Ready to impress and upset the neighbours? The truck is ready to be picked up from MGM Hotel Yalong Bay (Hainan) front parking lot for RMB 3.8mil. (approx.600000$US).
The truck had temporary registration from Sichuan but could not make out the dates on the paper plate stuck behind the front windshield.

Massive construction projects everywhere including water & amusement parks, a very large multi floor Haitang Bay duty free shopping mall.
Atlantis Hainan: Atlantis Sanya, Hainan and Sea World Hainan (similar to Australia's Sea World / Wet n' Wild at the famous Gold Coast) are under development and construction as well.

Partially operational, weird Romance Park Sanya between Yalong Bay and Sanya under heavy construction.

Some random Hainan Island pics, as usual the works = very good mates ~ excellent food ~ brilliant solid bike cruising, hanging out at the pool and awesome relaxing days… just as always ~ time flies……

The Jialing JH600 gets a bit of TLC and a final wash before stored away safely for the next bike trip on the island…..

Hainan Island ADV cruising to be continued during 2014, was not really motivated to take tons of pics during the trip…..

Huge empty real estate construction site in Qingpu district just off the G318 HuQiPing Highway (Shanghai) makes a great playground for the Jialing JH600 sidecar during a winter weekend.
Really enjoy owning the JL sidecar, great fun for daily cruising and running errands.
