Uneventful ride over to Wenchang from Boao and noticed a lot of indoor / outdoor seafood farms along the route.
Some sections of road undergoing cheap dangerous repairs as the road surface becomes very slippery with the hot tar and loose gravel.

Thanks TB! I will stay away from the CJ's, just daydreaming, do not need more stuff, I need less stuff!
Can you travel with your bike on the highways? Some friends in Suzhou told me even with "big bike" cannot use the toll ways?

Well done, saving yourself a whole lot of trouble and hassle. Chinese bikes, especially CJ sidecars are only cheap to run and operate while using them in Red China.

Legally we are not allowed onto toll expressways around greater Shanghai area and neighbouring provinces like Jiangsu / Zhejiang but....
Up north around greater Beijing and Tianjin area its another story as you we treated like any other motor vehicle (car, bus, truck, etc.) and you just pull up at the expressway toll gate and pay for expressway usage per kilometre......

I see, thanks TB. Maybe soon it will be possible to drive from North Thailand to Suzhou so I can go see my friends, without flying to Shanghai :-)

A few months ago we met with two elderly Chinese couples who were on their way with their campers (Chinese pickups converted to camper).
They told us their travel plan which was quite elaborate, they were from North China and plannend to go visit the Thai beach, go into Cambodia and via Vietnam back into China again.

Looking around Wenchang downtown district and stopping at some memorial with a bloke made out of bronze sitting on a big slab of marble...

Plan your trip though Red China very carefull, don't get me wrong here, we have beautiful areas and places to ride over here but really shitty heavily polluted places as well.
Have you ever spent time in China's grotty exurban or industrial rural areas? It's a landscape similar to the one seen in "Beyond Thunderdome".
A post-industrial shit-heap of broken dreams interspersed with polluted fish farms. Shocking words I know but unfortunately its the raw truth......

The RV and camper travelling takes off more and more over here and they started to form clubs in Shanghai and Beijing.
Only one set-back so far, trailers behind cars are not legally allowed but you can purchase the beautiful Airstream camping trailers for huge $$$$'s.....

Hi TB, yes, I have seen the industrial zones of Suzhou for considerable time during the last 10 years.
I only went outside of the wider Suzhou area only twice, one time to Wengzhou, I believe in 2003 and to Hangzhou, cannot remember when.
The drive from Shanghai airport to Suzhou is always interesting if you are into pollution :-)

Get in touch next time your over here, we have a Shanghai factory and opened a biker cafe called "Roadhouse" right at the national road #318 (the highway goes from Shanghai all the way to Kathmandu via the Tibetean Plateu / Lhasa).
The "Roadhouse" located at 2188 HuQingPing Highway (National Highway #318) is very popular with all sorts of bikers during the weekend.....

roadhouse_zpsf53cc9e3.jpg

Niceeeeeeee, does the roadhouse have a website??
nope, not yet, we build a new factory beginning of last year and out of a BBQ shed became a full on biker cafe / restaurant open 08:30>>21:00hrs. daily so i can have my own secure bike parking spot and food and beverage and really Shanghai needed a place like that in the suburbs.
we show all sorts of motorsports (live) inside / outside and re-runs of TopGear UK, etc..... we are in the food business for a very long time over here and know what we are doing, no worries.

Great, can you share pictures of the HQP Roadhouse?

On my way up to Haikou from Wenchang, passing through quite a few small villages and somehow they feel like 1800's western towns with single row houses on both sides, motorbikes look like horses of cowboys and the small police station is the sheriff's office and county jail.....
Might be all the infamous Sanya moonshine booze.....

Seems they can not make up their minds about vehicles on the Hainan G98 expressway, spot the important difference?
Hainan Island expressways do not have any toll gates, the petrol is more expensive compared to Mainland China to make up for it....

Made it to Haikou: Haikou - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for my business meetings, the weather is not really pleasant, humid / foggy and only around +15 degrees celsius this time of the year (January 2013).
Killing some time between meetings and visited Haikou Yongqing Temple, the temple is located not far from the Haikou / Hai'An ferry terminal connecting the island with the China mainland.

TB, do you have any experience with the Chinese CF Moto 650NK?
sorry, no first hand experience with CFmoto bikes, never tested one but know a few guys that bought the plastic fantastic version of the CFmoto 650 with plastic pannier and all sorts of cheap farkles.....
for years rumours floating around about CFmoto launching a dual sport bike but believe it once i see it. recently word spreads KTM got in bed with CFmoto about developing a China market bike, not sure about the truth in that.....

Bo'ai Road is a neighbourhood located on the south side of the Haidian River, at the northern part of Haikou city.
It comprises many dilapidated buildings with European fusion-type architectural facades. The buildings are almost all painted white, and are usually no more than a few stories tall.
The area contains mainly narrow streets and alleyways, and is populated almost entirely by indigenous Hainan people. The neighbourhood is the commercial centre for textiles, pets, exotic foods, replica antiques, shoes, hardware items, and wholesales convenience store products.

After a few days up in Haikou departed capital city heading South again towards Sanya to warmer pleasant weather via National Road #224.
Natural Rubber Plantations and lots of Beekeepers along the road, either operated by beekepers with tricycles, motorbike or the ones equipped with this kind of pictured truck set-up.

Sad news, the Jialing JH600 sidecar got crated again and is on the way back to Shanghai after all the fun in the sun around Hainan Island (Southern China).

Great relaxed riding around Sanya and the rest of Hainan Island and lets not talk about the pleasant weather every day, empty beaches and mountain regions (easy to avoid the touristy scams, crap and traps). Visited some nice areas during the island stay like Sanya, Dadonghai, Riyue Bay, Shimei Bay, Haitang Bay, Boao, Wenchang, Haikou, Rifan Bay, Sanya Bay, Serenity Coast Marina, Wuzhishan, Longmu Bay, Monkey Island, Clearwater Bay, Wuzhizhou Island, Yalong Bay, Ledong to just to name a few of the well-known spots.
The Jialing JH600 sidcecar had no problems, never missed a beat at all during the 5000k+ daily riding and bike tours and only required minor regular maintenance like drive chain lubing and once drive chain adjustment.

The Sanya to Shanghai moonshine rum run was a full success and herewith mission accomplished as the JL sidecar was delivered to the HQP Roadhouse (Shanghai) after 8 days trucking the crate up from Southern China.
No damage to the sidecar bike and rum bottles to report....
