We leave Riders Corner as a Group but staying tide together is the CM Traffic is not easy .
So the Group was quickly apart .
Bob was riding first and Phil last and at the first Stop at the Hot Springs .
DSCN1118_zpsbbfa4b0c.jpg

We find out we loose someone out of the middle .
Must have taken a wrong turn in CM's Traffic .

Now on the open Road for the rest of us it was easy to stay together , but not for long as on the Gasstation a few km ahead
i have to say Good By to Phil and the rest of the Group depend my way goes tomorrow southwest back to Phuket and to go all the way
to Nan again is a big detour .

So after that short Ride with the Group i turn around and hit a Dirt Trail that goes through a nice valley along the 118 back to CM known as Iron
Bridge Trail or something like that . Why , i don't know , did not see any Iron bridge , but cross many made of concrete.

Even without a Iron Bridge , nice Track as promised .
DSCN1119_zps3ba57ac3.jpg

Most of the Way (30km) goes along the small stream in the Pic with many (concrete) bridge crossings .
The younger more sporty Riders will use them as Tabletop Jumps , for shure .

I ride a little slower and enjoy the nice views in the clean Forest too .
After 2 Days Rain ,no Dust on the Track or in the Leaves but many puddles on the Track and some parts very muddy
and slippery .
One uphill section was totally agitated by Pickups and Tractors and very slippery .
Barely made it with my not so fresh tires .

No Pics but the Gopro was running and the video comes later .

Got the Bike for the first Time this Trip not dusty but muddy and my boots was at 5 kg each .

DSCN1125_zps1a44ab11.jpg

But thats here in the North no Problem .

You get the Tracks to make the Bike dirty and the Bike and Boots cleaning for free too.
DSCN1126_zpsd1f0d856.jpg

Good enough
DSCN1128_zps91d24747.jpg

After a little cleaning i head back over the 118 in to CM and call it a Day .
Tomorrow i have to leave the north behind and start my way back south .

Hi Craig

I will then be one day later ( 14.1. ) in the Kanchanaburi/Srinakarind area.

Looks like I will miss you by a few days Klaus. I'm working this week and won't be back in Kanchanaburi until Friday the 16th. Still looking forward to weekend riding again if you end up working in Ayuthaya! Safe trip back my friend...

BTW, got the skid plate fitted 8-)

image.jpg

Klaus you missed the iron bridges because you got back on the 118, to see them you needed to head west to join the 1001 at Long Kord

Day 35 and 36

Or the dirty and long way Om Koi to Mae Sot .
a longer story.
Stream and River crossings 12
Bridges from Lose Bamboo poles to Concrete suspension 14
super steep Hills 2
Bike drops 4
Bike abandon 1

More tomorrow , i am to tired.

Day 35

I start the Day by leaving the Lai Thai Guesthouse where i stay the last 10 Days at 8 am.
On the way out of the City i was forced out of my Lane from a stupid Car driver and must do a very long U-Turn to get back to the 108

Once back on the 108 the traffic was easy flowing and i made good progress .

After a quick stop at a 7/11 the next stop was already on the Mae Chaem River .
DSCN1133_zps5f74e0c0.jpg

Looks like it has now much more Water then i remember from 2 years ago.
DSCN1130_zpsca3fb29e.jpg

Then i follow the 108 towarts the 1099 and on the 1099 the next stop was here .
DSCN1136_zps79cc1a86.jpg

Down south the 1099 to Om Koi and to my surprise i was at 12:15 already trough Om Koi .
DSCN1137_zpsb8875c5a.jpg

That leave me 6 Hours Daylight and i was thinking thats enough to get to Mae Sot even if the Dirt Road is not so good as hoped .
Phil show me a printed Map with a Track on it and tell me its no Problem .

Maybe i understand something wrong or did a mistake but i point the needle to the Track south of Om Koi and press GO .

That lead me to some kind of adventure .

The Road south of Om Koi turn quickly from very bad to Dirt and Mud and after going through a view Km of Mud i came to a Roadwork that stop all the Traffic (just a few Cars and Bikes)

The Roadwork make Concrete for one Lane and on the other Lane the Road workers Machines had turned the Dirt in a big muddy slope uphill and depend i was sliding already on the flat muddy sections a lot with my not so fresh Tires i was not sure if i can make it with the heavy luggage on the CRF.

But the Road workers ensure me its only a few hundred m mud then its all paved .
I told them i want to go to Mae Sot and all paved i understand as all the way to the 105 .
So i keep going south and make it through the Mud .

After the Mud came really a Concrete Road , but only to the next village about 30 km .
and from there it was still 75 km to the 105 .

But the concrete Road was good with some nice Viewpoints and i was confident that it stay like that .

DSCN1141_zps4c6669b3.jpg

DSCN1142_zps120a55a3.jpg

DSCN1147_zpsf3c265af.jpg

I was so confident that i clean my Boots from the Mud in the crossing out of that village .
DSCN1152_zps067a2f5b.jpg

But as i find out quickly it may turn worse then better .
Muddy and dry section change frequently and it goes steep up and down with mostly Concrete on the steep Parts.

Then comes a steep Downhill section with only Gravel .
Thats where i drop the Bike the first time .
No Pics but nice Video that i will add later .

Just after i manage to lift the Bike on its wheels 2 Scooters (dream/wave ) with 2 Thai family (3 up) came down the slope and nearly crash on exactly the same spot .

I told them i want to go to Mae Sot and they go the same way and i was happy to have some company in case i drop the bike again .

The Thais lead me up and downhill over many crossings , bridges and show me on witch side i found the best traction and not fall in to some sinkholes .

Then we came to a very steep downhill section that looks like the Roadwork has just left .
The Thais let me go ahead and walk the bikes down .

That was one of the frightening Slopes i ever ride down .
Steep, only lose gravel and a few sharp 90 degree corners where go straight mean fall straight down a few hundred m.
That was a dance on Eggshells between to slow and loose control over the Bike and to fast and don't get around the bend .
DSCN1155_zps37bec36a.jpg

Thats the last 2 bends , the rest is on the other side of that hill .
From this Point of view it looks o.k. but wait for the Video to come .

And that's how the Thais bring the Bikes down .
DSCN1158_zpsa507ee49.jpg

DSCN1157_zpsfc69385c.jpg

The Thais ensure me that this is the only Place like that and we continue the way through crossings and over a few Bridges.

DSCN1159_zps1d8ec790.jpg

DSCN1166_zps56de8448.jpg

Then suddenly the Thais turn in to a Farmhouse and i was alone again .

The way out of that village was good , flat easy nice ride without to much mud so i enjoy it .

In the next village i did not see the way out and ask and a young lady show me the way to Mae Sot .

But 500 m out of the village i stand befor a River , River not small easy to cross stream .
A good 25m wide and no Track direct on the other side .
First i was not sure but then i spot the Track continues on the other side about 50 m upstream .
Never seen one of this crossings but the GPS after i zoom in show the same way so i try to drive in the River upstream .

Thats where i drop the bike the second time , and the Third .
The Rocks under water was to big and slippery , my Boots found no grip and i had problems to walk on that stones .

And after the second drop and lift the bike i had not enough Power left to lift the Bike a third time
but lucky as i am 2 Thai came by just in time .
And i can ensure you the Kriga Bags are 100% waterproof . The one with my sleeping bag in it was more then 5 min
complete under water and the sleeping bag stay dry .

We lift the Bike up and after they tell me again that this is the way to Mae Sot they help me to push the Bike through the Knee deep water to the other side .

The younger one tell me there is a second river ahead but he will go with me and show me the best way .
Thats the second one , not wide but more then Knee deep.
DSCN1167_zps176093c7.jpg

But i manage to drive through without a Problem .
On the other side i ask my new Thai Friend
DSCN1174_zps391be19c.jpg

how long it takes to get to the paved road from here and he tell me 1 1/2 Hours .

It was 5 pm already and that means just enough time to reach the pavement at Daylight so i was quickly on the bike and going .

What the Thai don't tell me was that this way is going steep uphill and 500 m further after i try to get up a slope that gets steeper and slippery as higher it goes i drop the Bike the fourth time .

On that slippery slope i had problems just to stand and no chance to lift the Bike .
DSCN1168_zps9f696893.jpg

So i removed the Luggage except the 2 Bags under the Bike and bring it up the slope to check witch of the bags i had.
Lucky i got the sleeping bag , emergency food and my stove and Coffee but also find out that i was nearly out of drinking water .

I don't carry a water Filter (add it to my shopping list ) so without water camping was out of the question .
I hide my Helmet , Jacket and everything else i don't need for the night and take the rest of my luggage leave the bike behind and hike back through the 2 Rivers towards the last village.

On the way i meet another villager , (turns out my first helper was his son) he show me a shortcut to the village and upon arrival i ask for drinking water . But in this little village they have no shop , no electric , nothing for foreigners.

But i manage to explain them that i fear stomach problems when i drink the River water what they do and they boil the water for me , what cause me no Problems so far .
And as i ask if i can camp some where in the village they show me a room in there best building , the school .
DSCN1173_zpsf9aba011.jpg

They even give me a lot of old but clean and good smelling rugs for the night .
Happy that i have a place to sleep, water and food i made my bed in that Room but turns out that open room
(just wirefence on the top half of the walls ) get very cold at night .

In the next room where they had showed me a Toilet and place to shower (Bucket) i found in an Corner a big tent standing . Checked it out and found it clean and as it looks like storage for even more thick bedcover.
So i change to the tent and made my bed in there ,warmer and more comfortable .

Day 36

Track
GpxViewer

That day i wake up with the first chickens at 4:30 am .

Get up and unpack my small stove , heat up some of the Water and make myself a nice coffee .

5:30 the first torch lights show and soon a lot of fires between the huts start .
DSCN1177_zps2b6e0b0c.jpg

DSCN1178_zpsb5d81c92.jpg

smoke everywhere .
I pack my stuff up and wait for the Thai to show up.

At first Daylight i was able to see finally where i am .
DSCN1176_zpsc570ca5b.jpg

DSCN1175_zps83dfdfd2.jpg

At 8 o'clock i walk with 3 of the villagers back through the 2 Rivers to get my CRF down the slope .
Even with 8 Hands it was not easy .
Depend i fear for the electric and engine we push the bike back trough the Rivers .
If the Engine or electric fail i may stuck there for another day .
Not easy on the slippery Rocks in the River but we get the Bike back and the engine was running.

In the Talks (with Hand and feet) with the villagers i understand that the way they show me befor is the right one
but that one goes all the way up to the 1267 inside Mae Moei NP about 800 m higher as the village and that tracks are all very steep.
I ask them for the easy way to get back on the Road to Mae Sot and this Track goes back to Mae Sariang and this way is not easy too.

So i pack the Bike say goodby not without some candys for the kids and a donation for the school and left with a villager to show me the way at about 9 am .
DSCN1180_zps45e2e143.jpg

The Track back to the 105 was about 45 km long and everything but easy .
The area was very nice but i was not able to take my eyes of the Track for more then a split second.
So no video ,just a few pic's , i had to follow my guide .
DSCN1182_zpsc59917c3.jpg

DSCN1184_zps6ebe009b.jpg

Mud , deep sand , hard packed slippery dirt , hairpins up and downslope , concrete in all states from new to so worn that the structural iron stuck out or complete driven to gravel . And with some sinkholes in it big enough to swallow the hole bike .
But at about 12 o'clock me and the CRF reach with the help of my guide the 105 and after a M150 and a big thanks i turn to Mae Sot .

The bad conditions of wide sections of the 105 was a blast compare to the 150 km Offroad i had done the last 2 Days and so i was at 4 PM in Mae Sot and check in at the J2 Hotel .

My hands cramp , my Forearms was stone hard and my back hurt like hell and i definitely need a hot shower .
My Boots need to try out too , so i booked 2 nights and was at 6:30 at the canadian Restaurant .
Fetucini with Tuna first and a 300gr. Ripeye steak with fries was just what the doc had orderd .

Glad you made it Klaus, there are a few different offroad routes once the 1099 finishes, it sounds like yours was possibly not the easiest option although the recent rains wouldn't have helped

Hi Colin

Problem was that i don't drive to the end of the 1099 that goes from Om Koi east then south .
I drive from Om Koi direct south , more Tracks and much longer .

Tough day Klaus, maybe the über seat is slowing you down! I split my rides to and from Mae Sot at the small town of Ban Rai, Uthai Thani. Nothing there, but a convenient place to rest for the night at the pleasant Bansuan Resort ?????????????? ?????? ?????? ?.??????? ?.?????????

Hi Craig
The Seat don't slow me down don't worry .
And you are wrong , in Ban Rai is my preferred Coffee Shop ( just opposite the Police Station ) on the way to north or south .
great hot Mocka , keep me going , so i never stay there long .

Day 39

Mission : Go Home

Hua Hin to Patong the fastest Way i know .

Congratulations Klaus, hope to meet you again on future trips

Day 40 or Day 1 after .

First Day back Home , unload the Bike and clean everything .
DSCN1192_zps562f931a.jpg

Give the CRF a quick checkup.

Nothing damage or broken .
All my modifications hold up and the engine is running as strong as on day 1

Need new Tires and Break Pads but that was to expect after about , hm , need to check the km 7000-7500 i guess . (Check 8278 Km)

Its only Day 1 after , but miss already something . The Riding ? the Trip planning ? the seeing new things ? I don't know .
39 Days is not enough to see everything , to much of Thailands beautiful Landscape is missing if i just fly by on the Bike .
Know only for shure that i have to get on the Road again , as soon as possible .
But thats future .

In the next Days (or weeks) i will add the rest of the tracks (gpx) and the videos of corse to complette the Ride report .
Got about 40 Hours of video and that will take time to edit and add .

Great stuff Klaus good to meet up with at the HU meeting keep us posted on any further mod's you do to the bike. :DD

good reading and nice ride report, might have to get back to the land of smiles one day.... keep on riding!

Just got home Klaus, now can read this superb report as well as Stuart's (Wayne). Really glad we had a chance to ride together this time, thanks for taking the time to do this.

Just add the first video at Day 35

the dirt ROAD south of Om Koi.

Youtube reduce the quality a lot but i think you get the idea how it looks up there .
Just 28 Min. out of over 6 hours on that Track

Its that Time of the year again to get on the Road .

CRF350L is packt and 6 am tomorrow i leaving for Prachup .
The raff route this time .

Phuket ,Prachup,Bangkok,Kanchanaburi, BKK,Sa Kaeo,Buri Ram,Khon kaen,Nam Nao,Phu Hin Rong Kla,Nan, Chiang Mai , mae hong song,Mae Sot, Hua Hin ,Phuket.
Got to end of january , hopefully enough time to look for some nice places without hurry .

Have a safe trip Klaus. Hope to meet you on the road somewhere up north in December...

kio

What a first Day .

577km to ban krut my fist stop and about 500 km in the rain.
after the weather was stable in Phuket for a week with no Rain during Daytime i was hoping it stay like that .
But that was wishfull thinking i guess .
In Pang Na it start already , light rain for hours with a heavy rain around chumpon and another one 100 km north.

So i took not the usual most twisty Roads and stay more on the easy to drive ones.
And if you think everyone knows that the Roads get slippery if wet , i meet a few today that forget this since the last rain .
(must be years ago)
Twice a Pickup driver in front of me lost control of his vehicle and parked it in the botanic .
no harm done other the bend sheetmetal.

On the highway , roadwork all traffic goes on one side and 2 drivers was not able to figure out witch one first as the traffic must go from two into one lane. With the Result , they had a collision spin wildly over the wet Road and take out a few Scooters that was in there way .
More then enough bystanders , no reason for me to stop .

Few km ahead one Tourbus hit his colleague (same company) in the back , both stop on the left lane and the following Pickup driver was sleeping and
park his car in the second bus motor department .

I was lucky today , slide only twice , forced to a emergency stop from inattentive thai drivers .
One made a u-turn from right to left lane in front of me the other had his indicator on the left and turn right .
So just the normal thai traffic .

arrive at ban krut bb bungalows .
N11°20.774'
E099°33.728'

about 2 years old , spacy and modern , nice and clean , big balcony 1000 THB
CRF stand right outside the door , 7/11 , Coffeeshop and restaurants in less then a walking minute .
Just what i need after a long day in the saddle .

Day 2

A thunderstorm delay my start today morning to 8:30 and on the way i get a small selfmade bike problem so just go to Hua Hin and stay there to get the Parts to fix it .

Road construktion seems to be everywhere this year and some places they left unfinish .

Like here :
DSCN1867_zpsqbs4tm5f.jpg

All workers and machinery left , not even start tunneling:clapping:
and no warning sign at all .

That would certainly wake you up riding at night Klaus, hope you get clear of the rain soon.

Day 3
Relaxe in Hua Hin , fix my exhoust tip and the speedometer cable .
Hopefully permanent.
