Day 35
I start the Day by leaving the Lai Thai Guesthouse where i stay the last 10 Days at 8 am.
On the way out of the City i was forced out of my Lane from a stupid Car driver and must do a very long U-Turn to get back to the 108
Once back on the 108 the traffic was easy flowing and i made good progress .
After a quick stop at a 7/11 the next stop was already on the Mae Chaem River .
Looks like it has now much more Water then i remember from 2 years ago.
Then i follow the 108 towarts the 1099 and on the 1099 the next stop was here .
Down south the 1099 to Om Koi and to my surprise i was at 12:15 already trough Om Koi .
That leave me 6 Hours Daylight and i was thinking thats enough to get to Mae Sot even if the Dirt Road is not so good as hoped .
Phil show me a printed Map with a Track on it and tell me its no Problem .
Maybe i understand something wrong or did a mistake but i point the needle to the Track south of Om Koi and press GO .
That lead me to some kind of adventure .
The Road south of Om Koi turn quickly from very bad to Dirt and Mud and after going through a view Km of Mud i came to a Roadwork that stop all the Traffic (just a few Cars and Bikes)
The Roadwork make Concrete for one Lane and on the other Lane the Road workers Machines had turned the Dirt in a big muddy slope uphill and depend i was sliding already on the flat muddy sections a lot with my not so fresh Tires i was not sure if i can make it with the heavy luggage on the CRF.
But the Road workers ensure me its only a few hundred m mud then its all paved .
I told them i want to go to Mae Sot and all paved i understand as all the way to the 105 .
So i keep going south and make it through the Mud .
After the Mud came really a Concrete Road , but only to the next village about 30 km .
and from there it was still 75 km to the 105 .
But the concrete Road was good with some nice Viewpoints and i was confident that it stay like that .
I was so confident that i clean my Boots from the Mud in the crossing out of that village .
But as i find out quickly it may turn worse then better .
Muddy and dry section change frequently and it goes steep up and down with mostly Concrete on the steep Parts.
Then comes a steep Downhill section with only Gravel .
Thats where i drop the Bike the first time .
No Pics but nice Video that i will add later .
Just after i manage to lift the Bike on its wheels 2 Scooters (dream/wave ) with 2 Thai family (3 up) came down the slope and nearly crash on exactly the same spot .
I told them i want to go to Mae Sot and they go the same way and i was happy to have some company in case i drop the bike again .
The Thais lead me up and downhill over many crossings , bridges and show me on witch side i found the best traction and not fall in to some sinkholes .
Then we came to a very steep downhill section that looks like the Roadwork has just left .
The Thais let me go ahead and walk the bikes down .
That was one of the frightening Slopes i ever ride down .
Steep, only lose gravel and a few sharp 90 degree corners where go straight mean fall straight down a few hundred m.
That was a dance on Eggshells between to slow and loose control over the Bike and to fast and don't get around the bend .
Thats the last 2 bends , the rest is on the other side of that hill .
From this Point of view it looks o.k. but wait for the Video to come .
And that's how the Thais bring the Bikes down .
The Thais ensure me that this is the only Place like that and we continue the way through crossings and over a few Bridges.
Then suddenly the Thais turn in to a Farmhouse and i was alone again .
The way out of that village was good , flat easy nice ride without to much mud so i enjoy it .
In the next village i did not see the way out and ask and a young lady show me the way to Mae Sot .
But 500 m out of the village i stand befor a River , River not small easy to cross stream .
A good 25m wide and no Track direct on the other side .
First i was not sure but then i spot the Track continues on the other side about 50 m upstream .
Never seen one of this crossings but the GPS after i zoom in show the same way so i try to drive in the River upstream .
Thats where i drop the bike the second time , and the Third .
The Rocks under water was to big and slippery , my Boots found no grip and i had problems to walk on that stones .
And after the second drop and lift the bike i had not enough Power left to lift the Bike a third time
but lucky as i am 2 Thai came by just in time .
And i can ensure you the Kriga Bags are 100% waterproof . The one with my sleeping bag in it was more then 5 min
complete under water and the sleeping bag stay dry .
We lift the Bike up and after they tell me again that this is the way to Mae Sot they help me to push the Bike through the Knee deep water to the other side .
The younger one tell me there is a second river ahead but he will go with me and show me the best way .
Thats the second one , not wide but more then Knee deep.
But i manage to drive through without a Problem .
On the other side i ask my new Thai Friend
how long it takes to get to the paved road from here and he tell me 1 1/2 Hours .
It was 5 pm already and that means just enough time to reach the pavement at Daylight so i was quickly on the bike and going .
What the Thai don't tell me was that this way is going steep uphill and 500 m further after i try to get up a slope that gets steeper and slippery as higher it goes i drop the Bike the fourth time .
On that slippery slope i had problems just to stand and no chance to lift the Bike .
So i removed the Luggage except the 2 Bags under the Bike and bring it up the slope to check witch of the bags i had.
Lucky i got the sleeping bag , emergency food and my stove and Coffee but also find out that i was nearly out of drinking water .
I don't carry a water Filter (add it to my shopping list ) so without water camping was out of the question .
I hide my Helmet , Jacket and everything else i don't need for the night and take the rest of my luggage leave the bike behind and hike back through the 2 Rivers towards the last village.
On the way i meet another villager , (turns out my first helper was his son) he show me a shortcut to the village and upon arrival i ask for drinking water . But in this little village they have no shop , no electric , nothing for foreigners.
But i manage to explain them that i fear stomach problems when i drink the River water what they do and they boil the water for me , what cause me no Problems so far .
And as i ask if i can camp some where in the village they show me a room in there best building , the school .
They even give me a lot of old but clean and good smelling rugs for the night .
Happy that i have a place to sleep, water and food i made my bed in that Room but turns out that open room
(just wirefence on the top half of the walls ) get very cold at night .
In the next room where they had showed me a Toilet and place to shower (Bucket) i found in an Corner a big tent standing . Checked it out and found it clean and as it looks like storage for even more thick bedcover.
So i change to the tent and made my bed in there ,warmer and more comfortable .
