Guns and Roses - a trip to former battlefields

It's a memorial built by three provinces together to commemorate the struggle and sacrifice of those who opposed the government (has something to do with the communists).
The building on the picture is a temple. There is also a crematorium, a bathroom, a water reservoir and entrance gate. The turtle building am not sure what it is... Maybe someone can translate what กุฏี in กุฏีเต่า means? The place where the monks sleep?
What is sure is that the temple attracts a lot of thai tourists

OK, that fits in a bit with what we thought when we saw 4 people standing in front discussing things and one of them had a red star on his cap - could be complete coincidental though.

It was definitely a Chairman Mao cap....

Hi Max.
A Thai friend tells me it's 'Gutee' then 'Gutee Toa' = a Tortoise shaped dwelling where Monk(s) live.
'Gutee' (dwelling)

It has taken me quite some time to find some more information on this building but it is a kind of Buddhist temple and serves also as a memorial for the communist fighters. The sole monk/abbot residing there is Phra Sutta who went earlier through live as Comrade Chart and spent 11 years from 1971-1982 fighting government forces. There is an annual re-union of communist fighters in October.

Found a photocopy of an article about the abbot and the temple which appeared in the Nation on 23 August 2006 - the photocopy of the article can be accessed here:
The Nation - Google News Archive Search

The temple is located along Rd 2331 - coordinates are: N17.03400 E100.91530 and it is called Sam Saeng Tham or the Three Damma Lights
