Wearing motorcycle helmets to be banned in deep South
Security authorities are considering to ban wearing motorcycle helmets in 13 districts of Narathiwat province following last week's car bomb explosion that injured a dozen of people and damaged almost 50 shop houses.
One of the suspects who was captured by surveillance cameras was riding in a motorcycle wearing motorcycle helmet.
Security authorities were looking at other cameras in adjacent areas to trace the bombers who police said comprised of eight men.
The proposal to ban motorcycle helmet was initiated by Narathiwat governor.
According to him, with one of the suspected bombers wearing the helmet, the camera could not capture his face.
He then said in the initial stage, he would propose banning wearing motorcycle helmet in the municipal area of Narathiwat town first, and later would extend to cover municipal areas of the rest 12 districts.
The proposal yesterday caused confusion on motorcyclists when security personnel stopped all motorcyclists wearing helmets into the Narathiwat town not aware of the ban.
Some said they have to wear helmets riding on highways as it was mandated by traffic law but when they entered the town, they were stopped and searched.
