VERSYS versus ER650

I'm organising an 11 day trip for about 6 people and originally we were going to hire Versys. However I now find that I can hire ER650 quite a bit

cheaper. I have ridden the Ninja 650 in the past but only for 2 days and I can't remember how comfortable it is for long journeys. Considering we intend

to ride every day for 11 days my feeling in that the Versys would be far more comfortable than the ER, so I'm worried that if we hired the ER we might

regret it. Has anyone got experience of both these bikes on long runs, who could pass on some advice.

Cheers

Welcome to the new forum Elkie ;) and I hope you get some info here to address your concern.

The Kawasaki Versys is a much better touring bike, mainly due to the riding position. It also has a different engine stroke length, making it more torquey and better suspension, all adding up to a better touring bike than the Kawasaki ER6 where you are in more of a sport bike riding position.

For an extended tour, you'd be better off with the Versys for sure. Currently in Chiang Mai, the Versys rents for around 1,800 Bht a day, the ER6 rents for around 1,200 bht a day.

More in the link below about renting bikes in Chiang Mai - POP rentals currently has 15 Versys and will add another 10 by December, 2012, Joes Bike Team currently have 3 Versys.

Hi Elkie, I concur with Phil there.

You don't mention the terrain or routes you intend during your 11 days but perhaps if you are covering a variety of road surfaces, again the versys would be ideal.

I would welcome other comments from the guys here with ER experiences.
