The Tallest and the Oldest Teak Wood Buddha Statue
On one of my trip to Laos I did visit what they claim to be the tallest teak wood Buddha statue in the world (http://www.rideasia.net/motorcycle-...gmai-nongkhai-start-my-mapping-trip-laos.html) which can be seen at Wat Somdet Sunyata Wimok (N18.55612 E100.74588) in Wiang Sa just before where Rd 101 heads north to Nan.
On one of my recent trips up-north here in Thailand I found quite a few signs pointing to the Oldest teak wood Buddha statue at Wat Si Mongkhon (N19.88341 E99.19410) on Rd. 107 just before you reach Fang - not sure about oldest of what (of Thailand?). To be honest, it looked nice but also quite new but then again, I only saw it from a few meters distance as there was a fence in front of it, so it may well be very old.
Wat Si Mongkhon
Picture of an old picture shown in the same buiding which houses the teak Buddha - not sure what it represents as my Thai is not good enough to be able to read the caption at the bottom of the picture but it presumably relates to the Buddha Statue
