Looks like the locals border crossing on the Thai side has been moved, will have to ask Auke where its new location is.

...More to come

That one has been closed for a couple of years now Phil and I was under the impression there wasnt another one nearby

The loop out of Chiang Mai, 340km, quite easily done in a day. There is a 10km unpaved section on the Wiang Haeng loop , that say a Versys could handle without a problem.

Beautiful day with the seasons changing, fabulous viz-ability. Three of us decided to check the condition of the Wiang Haeng loop at go to the old locals, Myanmar border crossing at Lak Tang.

R 1322 still in decent condition at the beginning and great fun

Unusual to see the amount of the donation displayed

Often, after a cremation, the remaining ashes are put into the walls of the Wat and the persons name is displayed

From just outside Wat Fa you can see the Myanmar Military base a few hundred meters to the north

Leaving the border, there are several large villages south on R 1322 back down towards Wiang Haeng, the road is paved and pump up fuel is available

If you think you might need fuel, get some around here as the northern side of R 1322 has no villages to speak of

Nice.
Good to see those blue skies and Aussie Richard and LUFC being shown some 'local' sites.
I hope those precious old photos have been digitally copied and 'saved' for posterity.

The north side of R 1322 has two unpaved sections the first being about 10km long

Being just after rainy season, some of it is pretty rutted still

Looks like they're about ready to smooth it over
