That's lovely :) me +gf thought to go for a short tour up there ,where r u guys camping?

Like most things, maybe best not to plan and just go with the flow on the day. :ride:

I am sure that the monks at Wat Hua Mae Kham will allow you to pitch a tent there but, as they have many horses at the temple as the temple is part of the "Golden Horse Temple" (Wat Tham Pa Acha Thong) you may have to do clean up the site a bit before you pitch your tent - and NO ALCOHOL - at the temple grounds. For pictures of the temple see: http://www.rideasia.net/motorcycle-forum/thailand-ride-reports/4400-trip-remote-hua-mae-kham.html

Nearby is the Highland Agricultural Development Station (looks like it was no longer active when I went there - ) and at the back there is a paved road which ends up at lovely meadow with a small stream where you could pitch your tent as well and a bit further to the north there is the Hua Mae Kham Forest Park where you probably can camp as well.

A nice video about Wat Tham Pa Acha Thong and its founder Phra Kru Ba who also started Wat Hua Mae Kham in the Bangkok Post: The Golden Horse Monastery | Bangkok Post: multimedia
