I was in Barcelona BMW, Chiang Mai today, picking up a friends BMW 1200gs & got reminded as to what is one of the most perfect bikes for SE Asia, if you were only going to have one bike - The BMW HP2 Enduro.

It's basically a BMW 1200gs that has been stripped down to the bare minimum, making the overall weight less than 200kg. What isn't taken into account is the extremely low center of gravity due to the boxer engine configuration which gives it a huge handling advantage over most other 200kg adventure bikes. The only real disadvantage of this bike (apart from the second hand price) is the tiny fuel tank, there are aftermarket larger tanks available to deal with this.

Second hand prices range between USD$ 12,000 & USD$ 15,000 in the U.S, one here on temporary import would be an amazing machine. There's a review in the link below:

yep thats a serious bike , not the same as the overweight lardy standard fare .
shame is going to be destroyed by the twits at BCM

I was in the market for one when I bought the Super Enduro. I couldn't find one in Oz at the time... but some nice ones came up later. Talking to a fellow Aussie who bought one, he didn't like the suspension and ended up putting White Power forks (KTM) into it. I can't recall what he did at the rear.

I think you've got some work to do to convince me there's a lot of difference in the CG though.... surely that crank is higher? I seem to recall something about the crank being titanium... or was that just someone talking ?

Another mate, who runs an adventure bike supply business said that a lot of guys don't like the cost of accidents on them... and these are a bike that begs to be ridden in a way that's going to see them bite dirt.

Damn BMW and KTM though, for not following up with those two bikes.
