Ed was looking to stretch the Versys's legs, Ian had some spare time, so a quick loop to Nan from Chiang Mai was in order.

This was the first time I've ever stopped at the hot springs west of Mae Kachan on R 118, real slippy around the gusher, be caeful

Then off east on R 118 to R 120 to the lookout over Phayao, pretty clear day

This seemed to be some kind of seed they were drying getting ready for consumption

We were pretty lucky with the rain, the first half of R 1148 was bone dry, one of the great curves

A bit further east bumped into Latree and her husband with some friends, this time she was riding shotgun on the 2,300cc Triumph Rocket trike

Their friends had ridden up from Pattaya

The big bikes, especially HUGE KTM 950 Super Enduro sparked some local interest

Very nice.
Never tire of seeing pics of those particular roads and the views from them.

Ally, note the seat on the Versys!

What are your views on the Win House GH Phil? its one I have never heard about before

Thanks for taking me along on that ride Phil. A fabulous set of roads, great company and brilliant scenery. I always seemed to have some English guy just in front of me....

That view over Phayao was great.

.... and it wasn't just the big bike that the locals were interested in. Nice lady in traditional dress on Sunday morning

On the way back, that damn Triumph was (almost) always just in front.

I know that looks like I was on the wrong side of the road.... but I ducked back over just before that line went solid... honest

Another great view

Me, still enjoying the sweepers

Me not enjoying the rain

My knobbies are shot... they've got 9,000 km on them and will be replaced this week. I've replaced two other sets of knobbies on this trip (Sydney to here so far, planning on Laos and Cambodia next).... at 3,000 km each.... so I've babied this pair. I did a fair bit of slip sliding on a couple of sections of wet tarmac.

Ian - I've been told this traditional dress is from the "Moo Ser" hill tribe ...& as we discussed it's not a lady.

Ed being a 0500am riser left Nan early on his own and got into a tricky situation on the Versys.

"In my quest for the lost waterfall i found a slippery hole - the same old story of thailand. good news is that this hole cost me alot less than any other hole that i have been in. repairs cost 3 baht for a new bolt to re-attach my left footpeg. the trip back was a little inconvenient and made shifting in the twisties a little more work.

thanks for the trip. great roads, views and company."
