Come a long way...

Penrith Speedway 1938...

Sidecars were always the last race at the TT in Assen, the Netherlands and I loved watching it. This one was won by Streuers and Snieders- sorry it is in Dutch but you can switch on the captions in English.

Yeah, sidecars were very much a part of the GP and local race scene.

Always enjoyed watching them and their big TZ 700cc two stroke engined madness.

Some of my mates now race vintage sidecars on the dirt and love it.

Saw some nice ones yesterday, at the racing museum at Bathurst (Oz)

I remember watching the chairs at Bathurst. One crashed into the wall in front of me at the Dipper. The swinger eventually got up and walked away

Think there were some Sidecar deaths there one year before the bikes stopped racing there?

Was watching Sidecars from the turn onto Amaroo Park straight and one turned right, steering broke so it ploughed into the sandstone wall dividing the track and pit entrance.
One dead,one broken neck....horrible crash.
Wayne Gardner was standing next to me and we were both sickened. He announced his retirement a month or 2 after it.

Yep, two deaths at Bathurst in '94. All up, since the war, 3 sidecar deaths, 2 spectators, 8 car drivers and 6 solo riders, for a total of 19.

Here's me, in the old M5, on pole, yesterday

.... but back to the fun

^ good stuff, that'd be fun pity it was wet though...those concrete crash barriers are very close up on the mountain?
