Tube shredded in the middle of nowhere? Find some dry grass/ straw to pack the tire to act as a cushion for the rim and it will get you home. One from the other day.

Never thought to try in on a bike.
Works on cars too, an old aboriginal trick.
They even made a TV series out of these ideas.

I always pack 5-6 heavy long zip ties to hold a tire on the rim in case of something like this. The idea of stuffing grass / whatever in the space is so simple. I'm having a "doh" moment! Genius!

I am a great fan of tie wraps but hadn't thought of that application, ta. I once fixed a mates BMW GS pannier that another mate had knocked off in a 'close encounter' with tie wraps and a jubilee clip. Still have a few stainless ones that fell into my lunchbox when I was working, they are incredibly strong - could easily support an exhaust etc.
