As I am now getting to grips with the YZ a lot more, I am planning some tidy up work and new farkles (FMF gnarly pipe, cosmetic stuff etc)... One aspect I am not comfortable with is the suspension isnt set up for a guy of my ample frame.. :LOL

I have a spare rear shock and want to have it resprung and possibly revalved for a larger rider. I can get this done in the west, but if I could avoid 2 way postage and 're import' tax all the better..

I can get a shock rebuilt here, but unsure on any sources for 'competent' dirtbike suspension work ??

Can I just buy a kit overseas and install the new spring locally ??

Hi there.i would ring yss and talk to walter, sometimes hes in the thailand factory or otherwise hes in adelaide aust.check the website for his number im sure hed sort you out with a spring and maybe even revalve if you sent it to bangkok

OK thats a positive lead.. Thanks

Yeah primarily its the spring.. But if I was to post the shock out of the country as the work is a smallish cost, compared to all the shipping.. I might go all the way..

Sef, send it to Terry Hay, Shock Treatment in Wallacia, NSW.

He did two re-valves for me and did an excellent job.

If you take the spring off the shock and send to him P and P / import taxes wont be that big a deal.

Loop, I disagree about the valving, that YZ250 is my old bike, and is proper MX hard, you would benefit from a good re-valve and the correct spring. Better to get the correct spring even at $$ otherwise why bother setting up suspension.

I wouldn`t argue with you Darren as i have never ridden the bike but MX racer dampening for a "larger" enduro rider (no 20' drop off jumps etc) should be in the realms of adjustment possibility IMO.

I did see the place at Wallacia when i was looking around for a spring for mine. It seems RaceTech (Shock treatment) is the go to company for springs for dirt bikes from what i can find on the net?

Crowster has given a good lead. Walter is a ex White Power employee and knows suspension. However when choosing shim stacks for your suspension I would not feel comfortable with anyone else choosing the stack. From what i have heard there is some droppoff from what he does and what gets assembled in house.

Racetech + Lan from C&P Service

Phil i really respect Lans work and capabilities (he's done some awesome stufff for me in the past) but in reality he does not have the proper machinery to properly evacuate the air completly and refill with nitrogen only.

+2

He did my YZF boingers.

Sefton let me know if you want me to mail a spring over from the states. You can find tons of used ones on Ebay if you're looking to save a few pennies, just research your needed spring rate.

Meant to quote LUFC's post of Terry Hayes above but rideAsia is loading sooooooo slow it won't let me.

I`m after a stiffer spring for the KDX on Ebay and noted that there doesn`t seem to be much more than standard and new RaceTech springs available in the states...anywhere else i should be looking?

Ebay is the easiest as it attracts most of the dismantlers, breakers etc. Keep in mind it's not necessarily a Kawasaki spring you need and does not care what bike it fits on. Do your homework on the spring rate and spring length you need, you may able to find the same shock spring used on other bikes to increase your supply stream. Also check in with Ebay every few days as the supply continually updates. i was looking for a shock for a specific year KTM and none were listed for 3 weeks until one popped up.

Here's a choice of three springs on there now for your bike: Used Rear Shock Spring 4 6 4 7 5 0 Kawasaki KDX200 220 44mm KYB Body | eBay

Some basic research I have done says WR450 shock works well for the bigger guys..

Will need to really check this but mind on other things.. Cambo and PI island hopping starts tomorrow.

I read on Jeff Fredettes site that he says the spring on my bike is ok for someone my size and a little heavier so i`ve wound in some more preload and upped the compression damping a bit so i`ll see how that goes before i start looking for a new spring.

Race Tech site recommended a 5.2kg/mm spring for my weight and use and says that the standard spring is 5.0,so not all that different.
