The guy who bought my KLX 250 posted these photos on Facebook last night saying it had seized

I saw him today in Mae Sariang and he said it was caused because the bike had burnt a lot of oil and he hadn't noticed.
Over the 76000 km that I owned it for I never found it to be using any oil and I changed it every 3000 km, he is only 25 and is giving it a lot more throttle than I was, is this the likely cause for it to suddenly be using oil?, the bike has now done 80000 km.
It will be a costly reminder for him to remember to check it frequently in future as he tells me it needs a new piston, valve and cylinder head

A similar thing happened to my KLX250 at about 30K. I had burn't a full Litre of Oil before I noticed. The engine cut out, probably a low Oil pressure sensor or something.
you could barely see the Oil being burned. a slight grey tinge but nothing substantial. With Hindsight I did notice a burning smell but I thought it was something on the Exhaust. Regular visual check of your Oil is the way to go. Expensive lesson for me too

"The piston in the picture does not look like a KLX250 piston."

I would have to agree. Unless the mechanic has an incredibly small thumb, that piston looks a lot larger than the stock bore - 72mm (2.8")

It looks about right to me. If not then it's a Cylinder from a Wankel engine :?

Doesn't a KLX250 have 4 valves? The piston shown looks like a 2 valve piston IMO.
