This year I decided to boycott the mayhem of the celebrations in Chiang Mai city and seek the relative peace, serenity and tranquility of the
Nong Bua lakes in Doi Saket.
So I waited until evening and for the moon to do its thing ...
... then headed for the Temple of Wat Phratet Doi Saket. (earlier photo)
The climb up to the look-out offers good views from the new Buddha statue.
The Temple feline kept me company for a while.
Then a short ride around to the lakes and into the celebrations.
Decades ago the late Patriarch and the current Matriarch actually visited these lakes and they are honoured here.
And here.
There were fireworks.
And traditional dancing and music.
These lantern tunnels were an attractive walk-through.
I brought my krathong from home.
And it was placed with a few others to float away on the surface of the lake.
There were very few lanterns released into the evening sky.
I counted only 6 during the hour I was there.
The event was very colourful and pleasant to be part of.
Well, apart from the painfully loud concert blaring out across the lakes!!
Maybe I'm getting old but I'm still seeking a peaceful and tranquil ceremony here.
