Lone Rider
Blokes Who Can
Four national roads in Phongsaly province - Nos. 1B, 19, 1A and 2E - are currently posing problems for motorists because soil and trees are sliding down hillsides in many places after being dislodged by the prolonged rainfall. Mr Sisouphan advised that people for whom travel is not essential should not attempt to use these roads because of the risk of getting stuck in mud.
Landslides cleared along Rd. 1B but the roads are still very muddy
In Luang Namtha, an official from the provincial Public Works and Transport Department, Mr Phousing Khounsiriheuang, said roads and bridges there had been damaged or destroyed by flooding and mudslides. The metal bridge across Khon River (in Rd. 1501 from Luang Namtha south to Nalae) that links the main road leading from the Luang Namtha provincial capital to Nalae district is impassable at present. After flood waters receded on Monday workers are now repairing damage to the bridge.
Sections of the country's main arterial route Road No. 13 South and bridges along this road have also been affected by flooding, with areas inundated from Borikhamxay to Champassak province.
