Hi All
I am coming back to Chiang Mai in early September and plan on doing a Capps inspired circuit on a C&P Rental bike out to Laos and back and have been hearing from certain quarters that no one in their right mind would ride during the wet season. It's not totally non negotiable, apart from the non refundable air tickets, but I am really keen to throw the leg over as the plan is to spend a few days in Vientiane with a teacher friend who is relocating there in August.
I would love to hear any feedback from any of you yokels with the low down on what I should expect and be prepared for and if I get any positive comments, then any good route plans either way.
Anyway, I look forward to hearing the good, the bad and the ugly so I can make up my own mind whether I hang around the Bars in CM for 3 weeks or get out and get some soggy miles under my arse.
Cheers
Ian

Laos is doable all year round, depends on your route, almost all points of interest and navigable via tarmac or stone graded roads (which may get washed out in the rainy season) if you plan to venture off road the dreaded red snot will come into play and you will end up picking up your bike more than riding it take a look at Ian's report in Laos http://www.rideasia.net/motorcycle-forum/laos-ride-reports/2491-laos-september.html if this is your idea of a good time then go for it.

Thanks for your feedback Bob. It isn't called Adventure Riding for nothing is it? I'll just play it by ear based on weather conditions at the time I guess, but at least you are suggesting that I'm not a complete Loonie which is encouraging. I see what you mean by the "Red Snot". Prefer to do that sort of soup on my Trials bike, not anything else that weighs two to three times as much.
