For those who want to ride Rd (highway 18) from Tangbeng on Rd 13S to Attaeu (all unpaved) should not wait too long as the road will be upgraded soon. Sinolao (the aluminum company who will excavate bauxite in the Bolaven Plateau) will fund the upgrading of the road which will start soon and will be finished in 3 years. Aluminium company funds Champassak-Attapeu road link

Sinolao Aluminum Corporation Limited has invested more than 600
billion kip (US$76 million) to build Road No. 18A, from Pathoumphon
district in Champassak province to Samakhixay district in Attapeu
province.
The company is funding the construction of the 106km road as part of
its concession agreement for the excavation of bauxite in Pakxong
district, Champassak province, and construction of an aluminium
processing plant in Attapeu province.
The project agreement was signed at a ceremony in Vientiane yesterday
by Deputy Governor of Attapeu province Mr Khenthong Sysouvong, Deputy
Governor of Champassak province Mr Bouasone Vongsongkhone, and company
President Mr Premchai Karnasuta.
Work on the road will start soon and should be finished in three
years. The road will be nine metres wide and will have a surface that
can support trucks weighing up to 11 tonnes.
The project is considered im portant as it will improve links between
Champassak and Attapeu provinces, boosting socio-economic development
and spurring trade and investment in the area.
