Does anyone know of a local (Thailand) source for fans, something similar to the Spal 4" Pull Fan below?

I tried the Kawasaki dealership a year ago and if I remember correctly they were wanting 5 or 6 thousand baht for a KLX fan!!!! I'll try Yamaha but I thought Kawa would have been cheaper than them.

I was told a honda sonic fan was good. 1or2000bt from Somchai Honda

A lot of guys here don't bother with OEM or even bike fans, they just source computer cooling fans & they seem to do the trick.

Whats the plan with the fan John?

Alex - thanks ill have a look and see if its suitable for my needs.

Pounce - See photos below, I bought a rack of 12V PC cooling fans and im going to try them out for sure. The only problem is the innards are exposed to the elements unlike the Spal fans which are purpose built for outdoor use. Two of these mounted should just about equal the output of the Spal item.

You can see the gap on this photo where it gets exposed, im predicting they won't last long. Cheap as chips though.

Loop - Don't worry dude, its for the WR, it doesn't like the slow stuff for too long in this climate and needs a little cooling encouragement now and again.

Ok,my KDX could do with something similar but it has no battery.

Has it got any lights, ac or dc? or a 12V regulator/rectifier?

It`s got lights and a regulator/rectifier,think it might be AC.

If you have a regulator/rectifier you have dc, which means you can easily add a fan. Take the 12V source from your headlight through a handlebar toggle switch and job done. Better if you have sOmething lIke Trailtechs Vapour that you can monitor the temp. Some might say you need to upgrade your stator, I was told the same thing, however never had any issues. Put a switch on your headlight too (if it hasn't already got one) this will take load off the stator when using the fan.

Looks like a great idea

Cheers John, could be something to look into.

Fitted the PC Fans to the WR today, one on each radiator. Plenty of airflow from the both of them to keep things cool when the going gets tough, lets see how long they last.

I also reverted to the stock tank to make her lighter for around here. I got to put that nice Yamaha Racing Fuel Cap on too. Will keep the big tank for the tours I think.

WR's dont come with fans standard. It was a modification I did when I first got it - see below. It got damaged coming down a trail when a couple of bikes stopped in front of me, I had nowhere to go but down into a massive ditch, upside down. Naturally they carried on and left me to get the damn thing out (only joking they said they never seen what happened). The right hand side fairing took quite a bad blow and buckled the fan slightly. I inadvertently switched it on and it burnt itself out.

I`d be interested to find out how long they lasted? and if our how they were waterproofed?

Almost a year since fitting and both fans are holding up fine and the bike has been through quite a few power/jet washes. No extra measures were taken to waterproof them, just dont point the jet wash directly onto them during the clean.
They actually provide superior air flow compared to the much more expensive and higher spec'd Spal fan.

How have you attached the fans to the back of the radiator? wire/zip ties? I put a 2nd fan on one of my KTM 990 Adventures, made a huge difference in traffic/ slow speeds.

Thanks for the pics John. I did read that the 66 Nylon Cable ties should be able to resist the heat of a rad but your pics confirm it.

Are these special high temp ties? If so, bought local?

Can't see them drawing much juice - might just rig non-switched post-ignition... Airflow at speed may well cancel their draw anyways...

Nylon 66 cable ties are good up to around 170* C from what i found out,so will do the job.

Nope, you can get them at Global Home
