PART 4-Phongsaly - heading south
Niko and I headed south from LPQ and soon bumped into an Australian called John on BMW 1200 GSA
A quick stop in Phou Khoun for some noodle soup
Then we bumped into Simon and Lisa
Due the the rain that had just finished there hadnt been any burning of the fields, as we got further south and had dried out the burning started with vengance
Got to Vang Vieng and stayed at the Organique GH 50,000 kip. Its near the car/ motorbike toll bridge
A few beer lao's in Jai dee in VV
The Nazim on the main drag does excellent Indian food
The toll bridge in vang Vieng
Next morning southbound to Vientiane
Lots of interesting sightings
At Nam Lik on R13 south we detoured west onto the dirt road that heads south to the Mekong river, interesting river crossing off of the road
Road surface was generally good, a few holes from the farm trucks were around
This is the route we took west of R 13

The 1st wat, about 30km west of Vientaine has lots to offer, from statues
To beautiful mekong views (Thailand on the other side of the river here)
Niko contemplating life
The statues under a huge rock right by the river
The wat on the Thai side of the mekong was nice looking
Old sculptures in the rock
About 15km further east towards Vientiane there is another wat on the river, this one with a huge Buddah
Got to Vientiane and stayed at Villa Lao 180,000 kip a night
Big rooms with aircon
Nice shower!
Traditional Laos dinner with midnight mapper, Oh & Nikko
At this beautiful restaurant in Vientiane
Next day, through the border to Nong Khai and down to Khon Kaen. Tried a new hotel in KK called the Glacier. As i walked in wet motorcycle gear (mx boots too) , covered in mud, dust and sweat, a beautiful wedding reception was underway in the reception area, i don't think they could comprehend where i had come from, it all went very silent.
"Interesting" rooms with glassed walled bathroom! 1,400 bht promotion with breakfast incl.
From there the next day the 742km ride back to Chiang Mai
Needed a good bubble bath by the end of the trip
