PART 2 -Phongsaly - heading south
After breakfast I headed ENE on the dirt road to the villiage of Hat Sa
The dirt trail was hard packed sand and clay
Lovely traditional villiage on the Nam Ou river
Local ladies
The Nam Ou river
Looks like they hoarded the sand so that in rainy season they had sand for construction when the river was high
The road to Hat Sa
When you backtrack west of Hat Sa about 1/2km there is a right turn north, this leads about 20km to a Laos Military camp just south of a dam. I had some problems with buffalo's on the way up there
Then you get to the Military camp which is the end of the road
Arch over the entrance to the Military camp
Part of the Military camp down to the right (ESE) of the road
The bridge across the Nam Ou to the base
On the way back dropped the bike while stopping to take photo's
About 5km south of Phongsaly at the Gas/ petrol station, take a left onto the dirt road at the 400 year old tea trees sign
It opens up some interesting dirt trails that go all the way to the Vietnam border. The first part of the trail is rutted, might be nasty in wet season (Phongsaly in the distance)
More ruts
I went 40km down this dirt road and it led to villiage after village with tea plantations. It went on further with the same as far as I could see
One more tea plantation village in the distance
A lady from the tea plantation district
A traditional Akha lady with baby along the way
Once I showed her the photo she then posed for another
Doing the laundry in the hills
They looked a little concerned about the big orange bike
Everywhere you look the Laos village people are collecting firewood for cooking
Drying the tea
