Pai on the busiest weekend of the year


The combination of Chinese New Year And a big rock concert in Pai, made R 1095 (the Mae Hong Son loop road) the busiest it's ever been.

A beautiful crisp January day and a few friends decided to take a ride out to Pai:

Ted - Suzuki DRZ 400SM -- with every mod. possible (more to come on this)
Craig - Suzuki DRZ 400 E
Luigi - Kawasaki Versys 650cc
Glenn - KTM 990 Adventure S
Ted's friend - Kawasaki D-Tracker 250cc
Phil - Suzuki DRZ 400SM

1st stop, the Padeng Coffee House at the beginning of R 1095

This gave me a chance to get some shots of Ted's Cambodia registered DRZ 400, which might be one of the best in the world.

It has every conceivable modification done to it - off-set crank, 440 piston kit, high lift cams, exhaust, etc...... he says he has about USD$ 15,000 in the bike!!

We must have seen 100 Vespa's on R 1095 headed for Pai, here some of them at the Ta Pai bridge on the approach to Pai.

Lots of campers on bikes were setting up along the Pai river

This guys choice of camping spots was interesting so say the least, a rain storm up north during the night might wake him up

Rafting on the Pai river is very popular

We managed to get a room at the Norn Pai bungalows, 1,000 bht a night. It is a right turn just after "Coffee In Love" ( headed west on R 1095), about 200 meters down the side road on your right

With fantastic views

400 meter jaunt around the corner to famous Coffee In love coffee shop, here Glenn , Luigi and Looket

Again great views is the attraction

Next day, Glenn & Luigi headed for MHS, I went exploring around the back of Pai in the mountains

Good photos Phil but I will not be staying in Pai anymore, I will treasure the first two times in 99 and 2000 before the Khao San road brigade discovered it
