Here's a fantastic loop for a scoot. A wee bit of a trek to get to it up the 107, but well worth it. The loop is just over 200Km and brings you back to Chiang Dao and the Nest for some evenings entertainment. The whole trip from Chiang Mai and back was 360Km

The 1322 is a great motard road, careful on some of the corners with the odd pot hole though. Peeling off onto the 1178 which switches back and forth between tarmac and dirt.

Is the top section of this loop near that Shan State???



Great views all around this loop. Sorry cant compete with some of the scenery photos on this forum, only use an iPhone. Wish I knew how to do those one's Don does in Laos.

Chiang Dao Nest 2. Tried #1 first but it was fully booked, very popular place. We were lucky to get into the second one. Not sure how long#2 has been up and running. Room with a/c cost us 1,300 baht. Bungalows were very comfortable inside. Nest 1 specialises in Western food and I believe they have a BBQ buffet on Thursdays (correct me if im wrong Phil). Nest#2 specialises in Thai cuisine which was very nice and the staff very friendly and efficient.

Yes more suited for a dual sport Colin, a wee bit bumpy for a scooter but good fun none the less. This will be the first loop I do when I get the Multistrada, the dirt sections on the 1178 should be a good test for it.

Around 10Km maybe less, but only on the 1178.

Fantastic Johnny! Looks like a comfortable way to do some great exploring, those PCX 150's are hard to beat.

Great bike for touring on two up believe it or not. Will quite happily sit at 100Km/h on the bigger roads, however the brakes are weak and it doesn't install confidence when riding at this speed, I'm going to fit braided hoses and change the fluid to see if it makes a difference. The handling is really sharp and precise and takes some getting use to, great on the twisties and nice and smooth.
Rear suspension is crap. Compression is far too soft and bottoms out easily, I want to find out if there is anything that can be done locally to improve this. Front is ok, bit chattery over the rough stuff, but it's not designed for that.
Riding position is comfortable and relaxed and there has been no complaints thus far from pillions. Loads of space under the seat for a couple of days worth of gear.
I left Chiang Dao yesterday morning at 09:45hrs and was home at just before 11:00hrs (81Km). This scooter felt like a larger bike coming down the 107 and never felt out of place in the fast lane.
With the improvements mentioned above dare I say one of these would give some larger cc bikes a run for there money.
I think there is also a restriction somewhere. The bike will sit at 100Km/h with 2/3 throttle and the other 1/3 doesn't do anything!!!
It costs less than 200Baht to fill it up and it will do around 200Km on a full tank.
Theres an idling stop thingy, the engine will cut out at traffic light etc to save fuel and more importantly the environment! Bit gimmicky but seems to work without too much hastle.
Theres also a remote controlled alarm that comes standard, might come in handy when you leave it outside your guest house in the middle of nowhere.
So far it's been good fun. Mount the Montana on it and I'm quite happy to ride this all day long, no problem.

I think there would be a better after market rear shock available Johnny plus i`d be looking at a friction disc mod for some more pull.

The 125's had a electronic restriction at 106 kph.. You could feel a stutter there where it retards or shuts off. I would have thought that the 150 would have had it removed or higher.

I also found the rear suspension weak, but assumed I was not your average Thai design spec.

I got the Thai missus one (fucking dear in cambo like 4500 USD IIRC) and it really is the first auto scoot I have liked. I need to have the seat hump removed as long legs puts me wanting to sit just a bit further back than it allows.

I also think, silly as it might sound on a bike forum, that its a fine machine to do some low speed touring about, I have a friend asking about using one to go Samui to Cambo Laos and up here. Honestly dont see why he couldnt as he wants to do just 200 km type days exploring as he goes.
