Only $10,000...

I saw the new Christinies are mechanical chain drive to the front wheel, with a compressible spline arrangement at the front suspension area . Lots of moving parts and worm gears to send the power in strange directions, looks like a recepie for mechanical failure.

Motorcycle have made history for being light, versatile and allowing access to places where even the most rugged trucks cannot go.

Having all wheel drive on anything with more then 2 wheels - hence driving without requiring the dynamic use of the laws of physics like a 2 wheel vehicle - makes sense, especially when versatility is required to access remote areas. However, the same concept does not apply to motorcycles.

Bikes need to remain light, they need to allow easy handling and they require the ability to instantly shifting the center of gravity into any desired/required direction as well as load or unload the front (or rear) at any time. The 2 wheel drive concept robs the machine of such flexibility, the added weight in the front is especially cumbersome as it makes it slow and difficult to unload the front - anyone with off road experience can attest to the fact that the ability to get the front light and off the ground easily and quickly is a necessity - hence it does not allow the motorcycle to be sufficiently manoeuvrable in the very same terrainthe vehicle is meant to be used on.

Great ideas for gadget projects...maybe a good idea for a 500Hp brute to bring the ponies to the asphalt...but as an off road bike? Sorry, way off the mark. Keep on playing and making gadgets.

And the infinite amount of pericobobulations involved with the front suspension linkage make the mind boggle , wouldn't you agree ?
