Any spill without a helmet could seriously damaged your health although even with a helmet their is no guarantee but your chance of protecting your grey matter is somewhat greater. Although i vividly recall when the compulsory helmet law came out in the UK in 1973 myself and my pal's were out riding our Garelli moped's proudly displaying our nice new Centurion helmets when one of the front riders slipped on a patch of diesel and ended up under an oncoming truck, i will never forget the sound of that helmet exploding as long as i live. Luckily helmet construction has come a long way since then.
