I am in the process of replacing the stock exhaust on my 2014 Ninja 650R with a Yoshimura full system and have a few questions. I have heard a lot of different opinions as to whether I need to weld in an o2 sensor bung or just use a sensor eliminator. It seems to me that if I use an eliminator then there is no way for the motor to compensate for altitude and stuff like that. The fuel/air mixture is what it is and cannot be adjusted. I prefer the idea of having a sensor so that things can be adjusted as necessary in the same way they would be with the stock exhaust. This means the bike should never run rich or lean. Is this correct or am I missing something?
I am not interested in more power but just want a different sound from the pipes and I want the bike to run in the same way it did before. By this I mean the o2 sensor works and the fuel/air mixture is adjusted as required the same as before I changed the pipe. I don't want to risk any nasty mechanical failures due to the pipe change. I am not really willing to trust the local Kawasaki dealer's opinion as here in Chiang Mai they tend to tell you what they think you want to hear rather than tell you what you need to hear.Do I need to make any other changes apart from installing the o2 sensor bung? I think I will do the pair valve plug capping as well. Other than that is there anything else I should be aware of?
