The history of this is a bit strange and sad.. A good friend of mine used to run Phuket-info.com and recently passed away in a bike accident..
As a heavy poster on PI, and with a bit of forum admin experience I was co-opted into an admin role for it, but ownership arguments between nickes heirs, Thai court battles etc.. and a lack of server side access via the webhost meant it went offline.
Once it went dark I put up a quick and dirty forum for the group that used to hang out there.. so you may find the current content over there is a bit of a boys club where the vast majority know each other and theres less info and more banter. Dont let that put anyone off tho, its very much open to new signups and input. So anyway it was far less a plan to launch a forum, than a series of fire fighting processes that lead to one being there.
The old PI was centered around Nickes Bar (the Mai Thai Bar in Patong) and very heavily Phuket centric. Over the years the Phuket friends and expats have spread out through bits of asia so I am trying to cover a wider area, more generalized I guess as it obviously has less of a physical center.
Thanks to Phil for the link, but I am not trying to cross spam it or promote.. I think its is a very different user base than RideAsia is.
