The route 1080, 2024, 006, 3029
Total distance 264 km
The riders
Phil Suzuki DRZ 400
Captain_Slash Kawasaki KLX 250
Last night Phil, BobS and his friend Tim arrived in town, we met up for a chat but this morning Bob and Tim left so it was just Phil and myself for todays ride
Phils desire was to ride on roads that I hadnt ridden before, a tall order but some new ones were located, we headed out on the 1080 and north of Thung Chang we took a left onto the 2024
A small reservoir here thats slightly overflowing
Then off along this pleasant well surfaced road
We stop in a village and look around
They were very friendly here and told us about a track leading up into the hills to an army camp
So we set off to find it
A view from the camp
We ride back to the village and carry on riding along the 2024 until it comes to a junction where we take a left to ride towards the border
A couple of km before the border is the checkpoint and its the end of the road for us
Time to ride back down this steep track that has these concrete strips on the worst part
We ride back to the fork and take a left which will go back to the 1080
Its a very dusty track with lovely scenery
Theres a Honda wave hidden under there
To say it was dusty was a bit of an understatement
We reach the 1080 turn right and after about 15-20 km take a right onto a new road the 006 as the sign said
Its a fantastic new surface with lots of bends and we ride without stopping until we reach the start of the unpaved section and here is a steep climb on concrete strips
This was a fantastic find
Over this bridge it turns to single track
Two km before the Laos border its time to turn around as its walking from here onwards
About to start back on the lovely 006
A good vantage point to show the curves of the 006 wasnt located as we were in a hurry to get back
The Nan river
Back on the 1080 and we take a left to ride a piece of asphalt that turns to a dirt track
Its a fun one that meets up with the 3029 where we tun right and ride back to Nan both exhausted after a fun days riding exploring new roads for both of us
A pork schnitzel with a double portion of fries for 230 Baht at Tonys Place
