Nan to Chiangmai with a few rarely visited sites.
After a 10 day and 3000 km. Laos trip it was time to head home and as I am always on the look-out for new or interesting things I found a few sites which others may like also. Must admit that I have not been able to find out anything about two of the sites so if anyone knows these sites and has some more info on it please let me know.
After a very pleasant evening in Nan at Tony's place I decided to head home via Phayao. Along Rd. 1091 I had seen a sign for the "Phratat Malet Kao" but a search had not turned up anything so this time I took a turn at the sign (N18.84305 E100.41720) and after a few hundred meters I found the stupa but no info on what it is all about. There was a sign in Thai language which may shed some light upon its existence but I'll need to translate it first.
About 70 meter north of the junction of Rd 1091 with Rd. 1120 there is a small road (Rd. 3080 Phayao) to the west which goes to the Chiang Muan Dinosauer Museum (N19.10337 E99.82369) in the "Dinosaur Kangluang Forest Park" which is part of the Doi Phu Nang National Park
The Dinosauer Museum
Not a very exiting museum but if you are into Dinosauers a visit to this out of the way place may be worthwhile.
My last stop on this trip was at "Wat Phratat Phu Kwang" (N19.10351 E99.82337) which is said to house some Buddha relics. The easiest way to get to it is from Rd 120 and turn north right at the Phayao Agricultural and Technology College onto Rd 3040 Phayao. Again very little background information was available other than that the King of Phayao was somehow involved with its construction and that Khru Bha Siwichai had restored the stupa quite some time ago. While I was there they were sprucing the site up for Songkhran as on the 14th of April there is a local festival which is celebrated at the temple.
