The route 1091, 1120, 4020/3005
Total distance 249 km
A French couple and their child were leaving the guesthouse this morning and moving on to Phayao
Thai style, the whole family plus luggage, solo on a Wave with luggage is one thing but sod that
I pointed to the childs head meaning what about his crash helmet, they pulled his hood up instead, that might keep his ears warm but not much good if in an accident.
They were a nice couple but seem to have a disregard for their sons safety
Out on the 1091
I check out this reservoir about 40 km out from Nan alongside the 1091, finally finding the entry point today
This guy turned up to do a spot of shooting
Full and slightly overflowing but no dam here it just pours over the earth
Hes off shooting and I ride towards Chiang Muen then take a left onto the 1120 then a left onto the 4020 according to the road marker but the 3005 according to my GPS
Theres this poster at the start of the road but I dont see any pigs today
Its off to a good surface, I rode along here a few years ago but it turned to unmade and I never tried again until today

What they were picking
Quite a find is this road
I stop in a village
I see lots of wooden buildings out here today
No the road hasnt turned to dirt I just rode down a track for a few metres to see where it went but it looked like just to the fields
My GPS now shows this as the 4020 and along the road a small reservoir
I stop in a village pretty much where the paved surface finished
As the road turns to a dirt track at N18.40.816 E100.16.609 this Lady pulls up beside me fully laden, then she was off, I didnt catch up with her and I guess she is used to riding on the dirt every day
Its an easy fun track with lovely scenery
I wasnt watching the GPS and suddenly notice I am heading south on a track that doesnt show as I should have taken a right turn about 1 km back, I decide to keep going to see where it goes to
The track quickly deteriorates into just a track for tractore bringing in the crop so here I turn back to find the correct track
On the way back
I take a left and am now on the 4020 which should bring me back to the 1120
Its easy going to start with then quickly turns to not so easy and a hardly used track
All of a sudden its a steep loose rocky single track and I have to stop on a steep incline to evaluate the situation
The bike thankfully stays upright and I walk up to see whats ahead
That is steep and not about to be tried by me on my own. This is so annoying as I am only about 3 km from the 1120
Now I have to figure how to get the bike back down the hill
There is no room to turn it round so it was a slow process of pulling in the clutch to let it down as slow as possible, after about 20 minutes I was able to turn it around and gingerly make my way back down
Hurray back on a sensible gradient
There is no option but to return to Nan the way I left and I pass some locals on the way back.
I see another unknown track going to my left and heading towards the 1120 but its too late for further exploring and I will try to explore coming in from the 1120 sometime
Back on a paved surface and going home
Roast chicken, roast potatoes, cauliflower and gravy for 175 Baht at Tonys Place
