Nan-Some Side Roads-Sop Khun 6-12-2010

Total distance 249 km

I called in at the Honda shop hoping to find my tyres in but no luck, coming in this afternoon they said, I needed new rear brake pads so I had them fitted, 250 Baht lighter I rode off stopping for this pleasant chicken and noodle breakfast, I asked for another portion of chicken and forty Baht the lot

About ten km out of town along the 1080 at N18.52.943 E100.44.920 I turn right onto this new unnumbered road that I dont remember seeing before, its a good twisty piece of asphalt that runs for about six km then meets the 4019

I get on the 4019 and ride around in a loop noticing different types of homes along here

I reach the 1080 turning right then further on I take a left onto the 4007

A left onto the 1082 then at N19.07.917 E100.43.252 I take a right onto a narrow concrete road

A couple of km later is this small village at N19.08.397 E100.43.071

I take a look around then ride back to the 1082

At N19.07.810 E100.42.780 I take a right onto another narrow concrete road

Its certainly stunning scenery riding down here

I mark it here at N19.07.828 E100.41.953 about three km from the 1082

A couple of very friendly playful dogs

Lots of old wooden shacks here

The concrete road goes out the other side of the village

This is the end of the concrete road at N19.07.452 E100.41.784 which here is completely hidden by the jungle

Surprisingly theres not a sign for this waterfall

Its time to head back to the 1082 and on towards Sop Khun

At N19.06.859 E100.38.920 I turn right onto a dirt track to ride to the NP, its a bumpy three km ride here

N19.07.749 E100.38.531, the quite basic accommodation that has mains electricity inside

Or tents if you prefer them

The wonderful view from up here, there is a waterfall but apparently its a one km walk and I leave it out

Back on the 1082

That signs high up, they certainly want it seen

I would certainly like to ride along here towards the end of the rainy season, I bet its lush then

I ride into Sop Khun then theres this track that goes out the other side to the river

When I was doing my mammoth offroad trip across the mountain the other day this was where I assumed I would enter Sop Khun, how wrong I was

Sop Khun and just wooden buildings here

I ride back and just outside Sop Khun at N19.05.709 E100.35.887 I take a narrow road that has a short run of concrete but otherwise its a very bumpy dirt surface

A couple of these wooden bridges to cross

5.9 km later I reach the goal at N19.04.759 E100.36.323

A couple of years ago there were lots of strawberries growing here, today its just cabbages

I usually ride straight up here but since last visit the steps have been dug and it looks like they are lined with cabbages

On the way back and some workers are waiting for their lift home

The 1082 is just a 38 km long twisty piece of asphalt

I eat at the Nan Steakhouse tonight, I keep hearing from Tonys customers how good the pizzas are here and I have to say that this is definitely the best pizza that I have ever eaten in Nan.

So in Nan - "Nan Steakhouse " is the place for pizza's, always hard to find a decent pizza in LOS, they can never get the bases right!
