The route 101, 1026, 1339, 1083, 1243, 1168
Total distance 312 km
It was a cold cloudy start from Nan this morning until just past Wiang Sa then in the distance heading towards Na Noi the sky was lighter then finally the sun broke through, despite this the temperature was lower than expected
At Na Muen the 1339 is closed as this new bridge is being put in and a detour was followed
A second bridge just past the first one is also being rebuilt, perhaps they were both casualties of the rainy season although the road is now being widened and the second bridge was probably too narrow
The lovelt twisty section heading down towards Pak Nai
A very high water level by the look of it
I have never seen the water this high before
There is a road under there somewhere
These Thais were all from Rayong and Chonburi area and insisted on having a photo taken with me in it so I insisted on having them in mine
Riding back towards Na Muen and I really love riding this narrow ridgeline 1339, even more so on the KLX.
Sadly I think over the next couple of years it will be widened like the rest of this road has been
At Na Noi I take the 1083 to go and ride a dirt track that links the 1083 with the 1243
Brown water in the Nan river and as far as here the 1083 has been a great surface with next to no loose gravel on the surface.
Once over the bridge more care is needed as I dont think the roadsweeper has been along here yet
A couple of km after crossing over the Nan river I take a left to ride the dirt track
Its been three or four years since I rode here and it doesnt show on my GPS map
Now I certainly dont remember this piece of asphalt from last trip, it only lasts for 1 km to the end of a village
Where the asphalt finishes a new bridge is being finished off
The workers are busy concreting underneath
Back to the dirt track that I remember from before
Another very enjoyable offroad ride with good scenery
A village in the distance and I am getting nearer to the 1243
After 15.8 km I reach the 1243 and here the road is being widened and resurfaced heading south as well.
It will be interesting to see if the surface gets extended southwards as its only about 3 km from here to where the 16 km unpaved section is
Riding along the 1243
I call in at the Nam Wa Hydropower plant expecting to see it up and running but its not finished
The tide mark says it was full and overflowing during the wet season but its low water now
When I was here in March I thought this spot was where the dam was going to be but theres no sign of an earth dam built anywhere yet
Has that been abandoned? from here its a ride back to Nan to eat
Although Tony is away luckily his Wife can cook most of the meals and she is open to requests, yesterday I said roast chicken, roast potatoes and cauliflower with gravy would be nice
Today thats what was ready for me, 190 Baht and thats half a chicken with virtually no bone in it, it was great and I was stuffed
