Nan DRZ 400 supermoto tour - Thursday 20th January 2011
Other members of the Nan DRZ 400 supermoto tour will contribute, but are still on tour, currently causing havoc in Chiang Rai.
For a supermoto you need supermotor wheels, so these had to come off:
And these had to go on:
The team (from left to right) Mr. Skywalker, Marcus (Concierge), KTMphil & the Mad Hatter :
and Chris (second from left), a talented MX rider from the Isle of Man, who rented a D-Tracker
After meeting up on the corner of the super-highway (R11) & R118, off we went at blistering speed NE towards Nan.
Quick stop for some noodles on R118 (Marcus (left) already looking a little concerned as to what may develop)
MORE TO COME!
All fueled up and off to have some supermoto fun in the amazing roads around Nan:
Our first little photo session was on the 1091 west of Nan, here Mr. Skywalker showing his cornering talents:
Mr. H showing some newly acquired talent:
Marcus going well:
After getting bored of that curve, we found another:
Chris going for style points:
Mr. Skywalker at speed:
Chris on the D-Tracker needed some juice as his tank was smaller, but wasn't an issue finding somewhere:
Once arrived in Nan we checked in at the Grand mansion Hotel, great value at 350 bht. Here the bikes parked at the Hotel, ive parked here many mant times and never had any incidents:
Some say Nan is not a fun town, how wrong they are. From 11pm onwards both "Chanel X" and "Filth" are usually packed, fun nights clubs, with coyote shows in both places, both great places to let off steam (as we did, the Mad Hatter even wearing a long wig which amused the Coyote girls immensely).
A classic comment from the trip was Chris saying " this Chivas doesn't seem to be doing anything". I think he ate his words after up drinking until 0445am and feeling like death at 0900am the next morning.
The next day all horribly hungover, from the previous nights frivolities, off eastwards towards the 1081.
The road east of Nan has been under construction for some time, its only about a 1km section though:
Back to photo opportunities on the 1081, here some special skills
Beautiful views east of Nan
We then found another corner for some Kodak moments, here Chris:
The Mad Hatter:
Mr. Skywalker:
Quick spot of lunch, then onto you know where
The famous "1148" ! Maybe the only reason for coming. I have heard its one of the 3 best roads in Asia. North of Nan, fantastic surface, no traffic and built like a race track:
The group discussing the fun about to be had
The 1148 was perfect, no cars and perfect sweeping corners, magical.
Chris after 1/2 a bottle of Chivas
We parted ways near Chiang Kham, the rest of the team headed for Chiang Rai to cause mischief.
This is a shot of the sunset last night on R120 headed back to Chiangmai
