The route 1168, 1225, 3197, 1257, 1081, 1169
Total distance 189 km
First stop this morning was the Huai Prung reservoir just off the 1225, the GPS picked up three of todays reservoirs that I never knew existed before
Its quite a scenic spot here
The steep descent of the overflow
Now to ride back along the overflow as obviously the reservoir is below capacity
I take a right off the 1225 to visit another new reservoir for me
The Nan Muap reservoir
This one is slightly overflowing
Further along the 1225 I take a right onto the 3197
A well surfaced twisty asphalt road that when I first rode it a few years ago only went for a short distance before turning to dirt
The last time I rode it two or three years ago the asphalt went further but this nice twisty bit was still dirt, now its asphalt right to the village
I have never rode to here before, always turning back at the dirt, I was going to try the dirt on the KLX but too late its gone
I ride around the village on the paved surface then ride back to the 1225
Riding back along the 3197
The 1225 has a few curves to offer
These three playful friendly dogs seemed to want to play in the road, hopefully they learn in time
Now to try to find the entrance to this unknown reservoir near the start of the 1257 that I have seen loads of times when riding the 1257, it doesnt show on the GPS or my maps so no name for it but later on I ride over the Nam Phong river that runs into it so I guess its called the Huai Phong reservoir
I try a couple of turns with no luck then notice the Esri shows a trail going out in that direction so I try that and hit the jackpot
The above photo seems to have captured the colours nicely
Near the overflow bikes have ridden through but I have no reason to cross it
Another 10-20cm and it would be at full capacity, those sandbags give it an extra capacity though
Now what I came for, to enjoy the completely unspoilt 1257
Riding this road is the perfect antidote to seeing how the 1081 and the 1169 have been ruined by the road widening
This is how those two roads once were and hopefully the 1257 stays like this forever
I have carried some wide loads on my bikes in the UK but never anything this wide
He sets off and hes a bit wobbly to start with
The KLX loves the dirt but is really appreciative of the 1257
The absolutely stunning scenery
I take a right which is still the 1257 and goes through a village then after a while turns to dirt
I rode part of the dirt on the Phantom two or three years ago but had no idea where it went but today with the GPS it shows the Wa river in the distance, part of the track means riding along and through this stream
The Wa river and the end of the road for me
Time to ride back
At the right turn for the 4016 a massive road slip has taken place, usually I ride this road after the 1257 but today theres no time and it can wait until another day
Just past Santisuk I spot another new reservoir, the Huai Pa and stop for a look
Another one overflowing
Now back to Nan
Half a roast chicken, double portion of saute potatoes and onions for 190 Baht at Tonys Place
