My Samoeng Loop
Another of my late afternoon trips I have done several times is the Samoeng Loop. I normally do the loop in a clockwise direction as I can then end the loop around beer-o-clock at the X-Center.
The start of Rd 1269 at the junction with the Canal road
Fondcome / Huarn Jana Boutique Resort at N18.73814 E98.89858 - every time I pass this place it is quite busy here
People 'cooling of" while enjoying a snack and a drink in the Huai Mae Ta Chang stream
A bit past the Huarn Jana there is a similar outfit which is also busy most of the time - the Bannok restaurant and coffee shop at N18.73772 E98.89431
Always get a chuckle seeing this sign knowing that fake stuff like Rolexes, polo-shirts, etc. are openly sold at the Night-Bazar
Lots of things to see along Rd 1269 but don't trust the distances mentioned as they are sometimes way off.
Traffic on Rd. 1269
Wat Ban Pong or Wat Aranyawat (N18.75036 E98.88481) and the stupa on top of the mountain (N18.75036 E98.88481). I did not make it up to the stupa as it had been raining and the track up was quite slippery so I keep that for another time
Views along the road
The Doi Resort where they serve Doi Chang coffee and delicious cakes (N18.79889 E98.83226)
The Kaw Tar Chang waterfall and Elephant camp
There is no sign to the waterfall and the Elephant Camp but turn here of the main road and in a few hundred meters you will see it.
Wat Doi Thamma Sathit - turnof at N18.80314 E98.79674 and it looks like that they will soon start the construction of a new stupa
The viewpoint next to the police booth at the junction of Rd 1269 and Rd 1096
and the main Samoeng Forest Viewpoint
A bit further on in a curve set a bit back of the road there are several spirit house - not sure what it represents but as it is smack on the border between Samoeng and Mae Rim district I guess it is related to it
Not sure what the plans were here but between Mae Rim and Samoeng you will see a short stretch of a 4 lane road with a junction to nowhere
There is still plenty left of other sights to explore along the Samoeng Loop - here are a few:
Tat Khrok Waterfall - the turnoff is at N18.77154 E98.86676
Tat Yoi Waterfall (N18.77733 E98.85496)
Doi Lium Viewpoint at N18.77825 E98.84425
Tad Kar Tan Cave at N18.77589 E98.81990 which you can reach along a rough dirt track off the small road to the Hmong villages (turnoff to the Hmong villages from Rd 1269 at N18.77624 E98.85442 or at N18.80520 E98.80936)
