This Hotel is a 5 star hotel...but the stars only in the sky !!!

This house was a jail in the French colonial times. Highlight the sunrise next morning.

Next morning Phonsaly - Hatsa - Mouang Khoua.

On the way to Hatsa nearly 10 km.

Talking with the local people and with 20.000 baht for 5 boots we can go. The trip takes exactly 5 hours from Hatsa to Mouang Khoua. An exciting trip.

Really nice trip and even more so as my next trip to Laos is planned for the same area so I know a bit what to expect.

I recall stopping at the same same fort in 2009 and waking up to this foggy cold morning.

I wish, all i recall was the ride up to Pongsali just about rattled almost all the moving parts off our bikes, now the road is paved and the water way up north is now sadly locked up thanks to this monster.

Bob I hear this that the Chinese build a dam in this aerea. Is this north between Hatsa and OU Tai or south on the way to Mouang Khoua ?

It's around 30km north of Khoua on the Nam Ou one of the many rivers being choked by Chinese investment.
