Great report Chris. Beautiful bike, how are you liking it? I'm actually contemplating a 990 SMR for touring Thailand long distance, that and the Tiger SE are favourites so far.
 
Thanks JS, the bike is brilliant, all day in the saddle, loads of power and it goes round the corners very well....

If I was going to take a bike to Thailand, this would be the one...

The KTM dealer Yuth just went to southern Laos on a 990 SMR with Sukie on his KTM 990 adv.

Sukie said they had a fantastic time on the big KTM's over there.

The Alps are fantastic, it a shame France is in the way, very flat over that side apart from the Vouge mountains..

Great to get of for a few days..I would love to ride the Ktm in Asia...think the SMR has a much shorter fuel range...if you don't want the Adventurer the SMT would be the one...170miles before the fuel light comes on.......I'm sure that would decrease a lot of road but a very able bike..

My only worry would be picking it up on Mud....heavy bike....
