Loy Krathong, Chiang Khong

The Harley needed a border run, so what better than to see Loy Krathong on the Mekong River in Chiang Khong.


Views across into Houay Xai, Laos

The Loy Krathong festival is always on a full moon, this is the day before looking across the Mekong and looks pretty full

The super-dangerous evening market, "on" the main high street in Chiang Khong, tractor-trailer HGV's speeding by cm's away

The main area for the Loy Krathong festival in Chaing Khong is at the concrete Wharf on the Mekong down from the main Customs office, this is the night before the main celebration (night before full moon)

Looks like some can't wait till tomorrow evening

A walk along the Chiang Khong promenade the next morning, the Thai Navy HQ on the Mekong caught my eye.


I've always been told that all the navigable waters on the Mekong are owned by Laos, would be interesting to know the agreement they have here.
