Tha Rua (outer ring road)

The biggest track, has big jumps, and also a small endurocross section.

San Kamphaeng sand track
Small sand track with just 1-2 very small jumps. Local people plan to expand this track and make it much bigger. Most riders are supercup bikes so no big jumps there.

Of course I don't mind, Max, firstly because it is made by my neighbour Nino Vega who posted the clip on Youtube for it to be seen, and secondly, since it's hosted on Youtube, it's in the public domain and thus freely available for redistribution.

Thanks for your time and effort for providing this mx track information. It's very useful for us as my kids and their riding buddies (a group of 5 kids in total, ages 7 to 12) are interested in riding other mx tracks around Chiang Mai, as they are getting a bit bored riding the same two tracks over and over again.

Apart from the aforementioned track (belonging to Khun Nikhom from Pan Shop) near Ob Khan N.P. in T. Nam Phrae, Hang Dong, the kids also ride on a small mx track that I designed on the land belonging to the parents of one of the kids in the group. It's located up on a hill off the Samoeng loop. It is really a learner's track, no jumps or whoops, but some off-camber curves, loose sand (or mud when it raines) and slopes.

Would you perhaps one day be interested in teaching these kids some basic mx riding skills on a track that is suited for learning?

Two or three of the more experienced kids already started 'making some air', but they are limited in what they can do because of the short 'launching' distance and limited power of their small dirt bikes they can't carry enough speed to clear the doubles, and the jumps on Nikhom's track are all doubles.

It would be good if you could point us to a track that features 'singles' instead of 'doubles' which are tricky and treacherous for beginners. And it would be even better if they had a chance to accompany you in the coming season for a training session so you can give them some instructions on jumping and any other riding techniques you're willing to share.

Following are a few action shots of my son from a few months ago:

That's an excellent skill for a kid to learn.
Many or most of the worlds top road racers did dirt track racing like that in their younger years.

In order to avoid criticism from my 8-year old daughter Naomi for only posting photos of her older brother (whose riding style is more spectacular), I introduce her here too:

Hi Jayem,

Sure we could go out riding together. I'm not an experienced MX rider at all, but am happy to give any advice I can. The track in Mae On is probably the best to learn, has mostly table tops. Mae Jo could be good as well.

Video of the track along the outer ring road from last Saturday

What a great shot JM, they've totally got the hang of it, they'll be great trail riders when they're older.

hello. Is anyone following this thread still? I'm visiting Thailand and I really want to break into dirt biking. Is there anyone interested to show me some basics or ride with me this week? I'm in Pai now and will be back to Chiang mai on the 8th. I have 2 days left.. I would like to hit any of these tracks.

Your best bet would be to hook up with one of the many off-road tour groups in Chiang Mai to get a feel for it

Give these guys a try.
