I'd like to hear a comparison of KLX125 and KLX150. I've seen both in the showroom and they look pretty similar.
What is strange is that KLX150 was 5000 Baht cheaper than KLX125.
I'm considering one of these bikes as a bike for my not-so-tall girlfriend.
Can anybody tell me smth about one or both of these bikes?

My wife has a KLX 140L which is the perfect height for her, she claims she is about 5'1 tall. If you can get away with not having it road registered I'd look for a 140. Simple air cooled carb engine which hardly drinks any gas and so far has proved bullet proof. It has enough power for her to go wherever I go albeit slightly slower but importantly she can get both feet down which helps her confidence, she really only struggles in very deep dry sand, hills prove no problem to her. We can leave it for 6 weeks when I am at work and it will fire up on the button every time once I am back home.

I looked at the 125 and 150's when I was looking for a bike she'd already ridden a 140. The 140 is roughly 3cms lower seat height and 13kgs lighter, which means she can pick it up herself if she drops it.

Sounds pretty expensive to me, with no green book and 2nd hand...
Problem is, if my gf is gonna buy a bike, it's gonna be one bike - both for fun and for going around town. Of course the police in our village are very easygoing and my gf (Japanese) looks like Thai, everybody thinks she's Thai and the police probably won't stop her, but still I always prefer to have my papers and stuff in order. And we don't have a pickup/van to get to the riding destination.

The KLX140 is not made for road use - no indicators, emissions kit, etc. Made in Thailand iirc, better spec than 125/150 such as alloy wheels and swing arm, adjustable rear shock - and various other better bits. So, you can get a receipt for it to show it was bought in Thailand - so can't have it taken off you as an illegal import, but you can't plate it. That's more or less of an issue depending on the attitude of the local Police.

The 125 and 150 are the same, apart from the carb / efi - with less cc. Heavier, not such good kit, but no problems on the road.

Can do more with the 150 imo.

Thanks for the link! I'd like to know what kind of power the 125 and 150 make. Not planning ANY performance-related mods. Maybe just shed off a little weight. A 50kg novice rider girl doesn't need more power at all. But fuel efficiency and reliability are much more important.

Mine's not bad for fuel... Big bored to 175 and, while keeping up with a KLX250 on a trip through Laos, was using about 2/3rds the fuel.

As for power - for standard KLX125 and 150 hp figures - do a google. Note, the efi is heavier - because of the fuel pump mostly, I guess.

150 sounds best for you... Comes with plate, cheaper, lighter, bit more power and easier to mod for more. Can't see you saving anything much on fuel.
