Im still smiling and happy despite having a overnighter in Pattaya Government hospital ,,
nasty cuts, bruises and abrasions on right leg, knees, arm etc loads of blood loss

freak accident but apparently not uncommon ,due to a defect on certain model scooters when the front brake locks up on its own even without the rider pulling the lever!!!!!!
was riding a 1 year old yamaha fiore at anly 10kph ,, the front brake seized on and I was dumped ion the road ...

Some very decent thais rushed me to the new pattaya hospital on soi buakeaw ,,,treatment was swift and exemplary ,,
and cheap all in all 2700 baht including drugs , bandages, Xrays etc etc

the insurance guy and a hospital doctor told me this is not an uncommon problem with cheaper scooters the front disc carrier jams on unexpectedly ,,,Honda models dont seem to suffer this problem ?????
im still chilled out and happy but sore enjoying munching brain killers and malt whisky for the next few days .

will ride my ducati tommorow it safer methinks ??? LOL:scooter:i

Amazing went to the insurance company Virayeh yesterday with a police report (20bt) and hey presto got a refund of the hospital costs 2700 baht and any on going treatment is also insured this is only the basic government insurance ,,

I am totally suprised sometime Thailand works !!!!

Good to know i have Viriyah insurance for several years for cars and motorcycles and never had any issue which is more than i can say for the likes of Axa in Thailand who are complete garbage.

Sorry to hear that you went down but it could happen anytime and on any bike. I recently had wiped out at walking speed, misjudged the surface turning into a dirty soi and applied the front brake a bit too much. It went so fast, I felt like I was thrown onto the mat by a judo black belt!
No damage to the bike, fortunately it was my oldest and cheapest, and just a few scrapes to hand, knee and ankle. That has healed but I fell onto my side and fractured a rib, which was painful for a couple of weeks.
I wonder what the problem is with front brakes that lock even if you don't touch the lever, that sounds like a major defect! I wouldn't ride that bike again, if that happens you'll go down for sure. I never had a Fiore but the brakes shoudn't be any different from Mios and Nouvos, or does it have some kind of linked braking system?
I've ridden Nouvos for a total of about 100,000 km and never had a problem with the front brakes apart from the fact that the discs need to be replaced every 25,000 km or less.

Jerry - a question about your insurance

In Chiang Mai, a few years ago they changed to a single company allowed to sell the required government insurance - RPV

Down there, is Virayai still allowed to sell it? I was told that RPV was the only company nationwide.

BOB I dont know the ins and out but it was definitely Virayeh that payed out , i just had a look at the paperwork and it says RPV ??? ,,however it may be that its all under some umbrella scheme the yamaha fiore scooter is my mia nois ,, i do not intend to ride it ever again,, its only 18 months old ,, my wife has a little Suzuki scooby which apparently has the same front brake issue according to the guys at Sarang Boriboon charity emergency service who attend loads of accidents in pattaya area this type of accident is not uncommon they have the stastistics , i dont trust either of these bikes any more ,, I want them to sell em and get Honda Airblades ,, meanwhile i will use my Ducati S4 or 250 Rebel much more confident in them nice and stable ,,proper grip ....

i am healing up nicely and planning a trip to CMX to see u all and annoy Phil XXXXXXX
