Last day of the trip riding from Hongsa to Houay Xai and then home, I’ve done this route several times with a few variations it still remains a great ride although the banana plantations are not so pleasant.

Total distance 372 km

An early start was called for promising some nice views above the clouds and we was not disappointed. Although my bike decided to have an off day and once started the throttle was half open for the rest of the day which turned out to be a problem with the FPS sensor, so made for an interesting ride.

Well thats it, we made it to the bridge tired and dusty, it had been a very enjoyable trip with no real drama’s and surprisingly got a free escort over the bridge back home. Until next time.

Thanks Bob for posting this and taking us along on your trip and look forward to you trip to the south with Pounce.

Good to know that there are now two car ferries - One near Ban Kontum and the other more north near Ban Paktha (GPS data courtesy of Oddvar who crossed there some time ago). Actually you can ride all the way from Ban Kontun to the second ferry a bit south of Ban Paktha on the western side of the Mekong and back south to cross back over the Mekong at Ban Kontum. Guess that the ferrie re-located from Houayxay as well as Pak Beng once the bridges were completed which made the ferries redundant
