Hullo Folks
A brief introduction. I've spent a bit of time in SE Asia over my 52 years, in the nineties I spent all my savings going to Bali as often as possible (my surfing phase) and soon took to hiring bikes to ride around the island and neighbouring Lombok and that's when I discovered that there is nothing better than exploring the tropics on a motorcycle!
Then after a mini-tour of Queensland, Australia on a KLR650, I discovered Thailand on the stopover going home and was soon back there doing the PADI pro thing and ended up doing marine videography on Koh Tao for a year. My breaks away from the island were spent riding bikes, usually a Honda Wave rented in Chumpon or Phuket, just small excursions, but lotsa fun.
A few years later, seeing the Top Gear Vietnam Special, I was soon on a plane to Hanoi and found myself riding a Vietnamese 'Honda' to Saigon -in the flippin' monsoon. I was soaked through for 10 days solid but it was an epic ride and I discovered some of the older, remote parts of the HC Trail through that beautiful country. It was one of those rides you never forget.
At the beginning of this year I was back in Thailand and decided to do the Mai Hong Son loop. I went to the excellent HUBB meeting at The Riders Bar in January and a few days later (after getting some good advice from Phil) I did the 'Loop and then carried on to Chiang Khan on the Laos border, then followed the Mekong down to Cambodia and accross to Bangkok.
Next January I'm leaving my home town (Leigh on Sea, Essex, UK) and will be travelling for a year or so. I hope to buy a bike in Malaysia and ride North to Chiang Mai, then explore Laos and Cambodia. If I have the will, I might even ride all the way down to Bali, which for me is where it all started.
