I am thinking of doing a weeks riding with as much as possible off road up North maybe based out of Chiang Mai, either October this year or January next year. My other half is keen to ride her recently brought KLX140 as well, which we can put on the back of the pick up and drive up with to save the need of hiring one.

My initial thoughts are to find a guide or company that knows the area and can arrange over night stops if required, and generally play follow my leader without the worry of are we going fast enough, are we missing anything spectacular along the way etc etc. What really do not fancy doing (just yet) is buying a map, downloading tracks onto my gps and the 2 of us head off into the unknown or at least not the first time we do this.

Any thoughts or recommendations.......

Cheers.

There are lots of tour companies in Chiangmai which probably would be able to do what you have in mind. You could try to contact Marc Rossi who is a member here on RideAsia as he has done these things quite often in the past.

Gareth,

If I'm around on those dates I would be willing to do some local day rides with you and show you some awesome trails. For overnighters I'm sure with a wee bit of help from forum members you could plan and organise a few trips to the likes of Nan, Pai, Mae Hong Song, etc. I would also be be willing to join in if you could put up with me!!!

Cheers johnny, I think I have your email and I'll drop you a line or two once I get back home.

Gareth - there should be a bunch of trail rider's around on most Friday's, we've currently got a 4 injured, a few away working off-shore and some away racing. When you get here, they'll be plenty of RideAsia trail riders around.
