Looks like a new Go Kart track and hire has opened up on the night safari road near the NE corner of Canal road.

https://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=18.738093,98.934572&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=18

The track surface looks smooth, grippy and quite open and fast.
The karts are all new and powered by a 8.5hp Honda GX 270 four stroke engine and quoted as capable of 80`s/hr.
It`s 550 baht for 10 mins track time with some VIP membership deals available.

Might be good for a bit of a get together and RA Kart GP sometime.

Can`t see why not Johnny. It`s stated that there`s 700m of tarmac there so i`m fairly sure with a bit of input a nice challenging SM configuration could be found. They said they change the track every month so there`s a few different options and it`s just a matter of moving some witches hats around.

Pic 1 is a long straight with what you could make a fairly fast sweeping right corner into pic 2 although runoff into the work shop would be minimal for anyone one who stuffs it up :WTF

I`m keen to have a go on the karts while they are still new and not bent up by the locals......too much.
They also told me that it gets busy there after 18.00 when people have finished work for the day so the earlier in day the better.

Well done Loop, thats a brilliant find.

There we were hearing a while back about there being an F1 track suggested for CM, this makes sense of chinese whispering ;)

Been meaning to post about this for a while too.. Saw it as they were still laying surface on and went back and had a difficult thai language only chat with them when it was nearly running.

They say they are not the same as the old hang dong speedway (this was a non english chat with someone who didnt seem the boss tho.. so take it FWIW)... And yes super moto looks like it would work but be tight.. Also they had no proper 2 stroke or race carts.

I drove past about one or two weeks ago and there was a Thai guy in full one piece leathers with what looked to be a 1000cc sportbike on trackstands.. I was just driving past and only caught a glimpse but a real sportbike would barely leave 1st I reckon.

We could also hire it out for a moped mayhem fund day.. Mucho sillyness !!

Same rd as khao Mao Khao fang and Mr nics..

Good food at Mr nice with a review too. Superb aoli.

^looks about right Phil.

Hows this for a SM layout.... https://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?...=0&ll=18.738179,98.9349&spn=0.001486,0.002411 342m lap.

There were a couple of 2 stroke karts there (v blue kart on stand),one a water cooled 125 but they would be privately owned. She explained that they couldn`t have 2 stroke hire karts there as it would be too noisy and the area wasn`t licensed for excessive noise.

Nana seems to be the boss there and speaks great English..

This is the same business from the old track. Dirk owned all the equipment, I'll find out if he's still involved.

While it can be great for a laugh, racing with those single engined 4 strokes means the small guys will simply always win, with only 8.5hp the low power means any weight differential results in a large acceleration difference. Given any level of capable driving and the lighter guys just pull past. Even a 125 wave puts out up to around 11 hp so that puts in in perspective.

I did a season (well only a bit more than half a season TBH) in the UK nationals when I was a late teen, we picked up sponsorship from castrol and the team ran 2x 125 2 strokes (air cooled back then) TAG class which were good for about 80mph.. I also remember having a non race test session on a 250cc single which if memory serves will go well over over 100 mph on circuits with room.. With your arse just inches off the ground it feels like a million miles an hour, the 250 proper scared me. Also the 2 strokes, even the 125s, have enough power to break traction on command so you have the ability to lightly drift corners and feather the power to just tighten the line which simply isnt possible on the smaller 4 strokes..

Still we should get a group of us out there for the day..

So much for the info from the guys I spoke too.. Same business from Hang dong ?? No no.. not same..

:)

No I clearly got the.. Not same same.. very different.. answer ;)

8.5hp is very modest but while the karts are new, straight and good tires it could still be a bit of fun.

The 2 stroke karts on Phuket go like the clappers but are fairly bent up,which i can testify to having the steering break on a 100cc Clubman on exiting a fast turn and putting me into a wall right next to the track :(

Sure.. Its just with a light vehicle, and low power.. Driver size makes a huge difference to the go factor.. Still a fun day for sure..

Lets book it when I get back..

2 stroke carts are just a riot.. even the 'little' 125s just haul ass.. And that memory is going back almost 20 years, they must be crazy now..

The little KSR`s and similar size Hondas would be ideal around there.

I worked in a gokart factory for a bit, they said the karts would do 120mph

Yeah a 250 2 stroke will.. I didn't drive those much, but from memory it was more a case of running out of track also rather than out of top speed.. Like getting them over 100 mph was more about room and braking distances..

I have in my mind a max top speed up near 140 mph.. Given a long non track type speed straight.. But admit its a very long time ago and might be remembering it with some added glory.

Even 'just' the 125s are great.. Can just drift them at will.. When you get in a 4 stroke after its like.. Meh..

We use to do some 2+4 meetings with what were known as 250 gear box karts which were basically a 6spd 250GP bike engine in a kart and they were touted as doing up to 260k`s at the end of the straight at my home track...frighteningly quick around the corners too. My best mates brother raced one back in the early 80`s too until it flipped him out one time doing some severe damage to his leg and hip.

A 100cc Clubman is quick enough for me though.

I have heard yanks use the term shifter carts.. Which I think means the same.. Sequential, bike type gearboxes..

I assume you have seen the YouTube vids for "gixxer carts" which I think has come to mean any hodge lodge chassis with a crashed sport bike lump put in it.. Cheap silly fun..

Haven`t seen the gixxer carts but,damn!!...2 strokes are perfect in a kart :)

Yeah, shifter is the American terminology for the same thing.
Superkarts what they became.

"Some commentators have likened this class of racing as the closest thing to Formula 1 without suspension!

I think, and could well be wrong on this, super carts are like another jump up.. And more an Aussie thing ?? I dont think it's a class in the uk anyway.. Those are the larger ones with the wing on the tail ??? If my hazy memory goes, the highest class of racing in the uk was 250s.. That's back early 90s.

Do a YouTube on gixxer karts.. Busa karts.. Cbr etc.. Then tell me that drifting a couple of those to pai wouldn't be worth the build cost ;) !!

Superkarts is just a latter day branding for 250 gear box/shifter karts as far as i know and yeah they need a wing to keep them on the ground.

9 sec 1/4 mile!

About 250 Formula/E Superkarts

I've got a couple of 100cc Clubman carts at home. My son has a mate with a 125 Rotax cart... and they seem the go. Spin a Clubman and you'll almost certainly stall the damn thing... needing a push start. The Rotax though has an electric start. Oh, the luxury. I spun a Clubman at about 100kph once... top speed... and that was enough for me that day.

^ one of the go kart tracks at Kathu,Phuket use to have some 125 water cooled karts, maybe Rotax,as well as some well sorted raced 100cc karts. The trick was to find the ones that had just been bought in from race duties and hire them before the general public got hold of them and started crashing them.
I use to go to that place fairly often few years back.
