So I decided to ride solo to Fang and then follow GPS offroad up and over two mtn ranges and then into Chiang Rai. I beat the Tarmac all the way to Fang to spend the night at the Pumanee Hotel (140k)
Some views on the way
at the Pumanee they have some stuff on display from days gone by
next morning getting bike loaded and ready for the ride to CR
took me a couple tries to find the road out of town. when in doubt follow power lines!
that didn't work this time and I had to turn around and start over in town
now I am on the right tracks and looks good
first village and water crossing
now this is getting good, fun two track and single trackish stuff
So far nothing to difficult or to worry about riding solo
until this. of course you can't tell how steep it was or that there was just one groove for you tires to ride in but it was fairly intense and slippery
I hoped things didn't get harder than that and they didn't! looking back towards Fang
self
Now I was pretty much riding the mtn ridges and they were a blast!
Now I am kind of heading down into lower altitude and nearing road #3037 and Hoho
Pine/Bamboo forest
lots of activity in the mtns now with harvesting
now I am getting nearer the big resevoir Huay Mae Suay
rebuild
this is one big beautiful lake!
So I stop at a cross roads to decide to head down to Mae Lao via tarmac or back up into the mtns and then down into CR. It wasn't a hard decision. This guy just stood there and looked at me while I made my decision
looking down towards Mae Lao/CR valley
Score! I ran across Doi Chang Coffee Resort. Had a good cup and a sandwich and back on the road
There is no road number on the map for this but if you look you will see you would be heading towards rd# 1211 from 3037
So I think things can't get to difficult since I am kind of near CR etc but wrong again. Up into the clouds and a bit chilly
slippin and sliddin going down. It got much more narrow and tight in section but really a blast!
Now I am out of the mtns and hitting a lot of villages. Then this
It was only about 5" deep so no worries but at first I was like "WTF"?
Now it was pretty straight forward from here to CR. 140k-ish for the day
more.....
