Doi Puk Phak Ka (north of Chiang Dao)
This is a great loop covering some of the best riding on the 1322 and 1178, with a remote 40 klm double and single track route through the heart of Pha Daeng NP. The 1322 is the road that leads to Wiang Haeng or Mueang Haeng and has some great twisties through the mountains with some rough sections and some newly sealed sections. There is a turn off to the dirt section at a small national parks office about half way to Wiang Haeng. After taking this turn and travelling about 10 klm’s through beautiful jungle you will arrive at a small national park camp site some 1,700 meters high which offers spectacular view across to Chiang Dao peak. Follow the dirt track as it continues north for some sensational riding through very isolated and picturesque country. The track deteriorates the further you venture north, becoming single track with greasy clay in places, fallen trees across the track and some serious ruts until coming out at Ban Thai Yai on the 1178. This is a dry weather only section! After coming out on the 1178 head east for some brilliant ridge riding on some excellent sealed sections of road with some rough pot holed, unsealed and broken sections mixed in to keep you on your toes. Follow the 1178 as it turns south back to the junction of the 1322.
