Plan today is to head for Khun Yuam and out to the refugee camp that suffered from a major fire last year, for which I had been given the GPS coordinates to find.
First off was breakfast at the Salween Restaurant next to the lake where the owners are just lovely people and the breakfast good.
At Khun Yuam I called into the Castrol workshop in the main street for a tyre change. They recommended some used by local hill people for offroad, a Thai tyre called Cobra Enduro X at the princely sum of 420 baht each, bit cheaper than the 11,000 baht Scorpion Trails used on my V Strom.
Boys at work, i donated my worn rubber to him for his bike under construction
Bit more rubber than before and wider
Booked into the Mitkhoonyoum Hotel also on the main street where the owner is a retired school teacher. This is the site of the old cinema and this day she was giving private English tuition to some local students.
Some sweet students
Off north of town to find the refugee camp. Travelled for about 20 kms and came across a truck convoy returning from the camp for the day. Constant use from them has turned the road to bulldust so as it was mid afternoon decided to leave it until the next day as there are a couple of wide water crossings to do.
Checkpoint just before the right turnoff
The right turn to the camp
Part of the truck convoy
Lovely village setting
Ducks at play
You need a real reason to stay in Khun Yuam. I looked everywhere for a decent restaurant and beer but settled for less. The town has facilities but is a most quiet (boring to many) place.
